Oakworth - Tracks and Trains

After a jolly day out at Wycrail yesterday, highly recommended, I set about making some Easitrac for Oakworth. Now either I am doing it wrong or I am extremely slow both of which are probably true, it took me best part of the day to do 7 pieces. I had pondered laying cork underlay but failed to get some from the show so kind of kicking myself today I also need to find some pins for when I start putting down the rails. But things are now starting to move forward. I have a shopping list ready for Warley and hopefully will be able to source some more sleepering pcbs as I think I have enough for 1 1/2 points.

With the track now laid out I get a feel for the space on the board, it does seem to be quite spacious having seen other recent 2mmFS layouts. But I think it will be quick to shrink when i get more of the scenery on. I had hoped to start the buildings today, but you can only have so much fun in one day!! :D

Easitrac does take a while to thread, but it's best to take it slow anyway to avoid bending the rail. I found that it doesn't take much to put a subtle bend in it which only reveals itself once the track is fastened down!

The 3MT is a lovely model, although I don't envy you converting it to 2mm!

Thanks Tom, yes I have my doubts about the first piece that I did.. but we will see.

Looking at the valve gear today makes me go gulp!! Anyway I have a J72 to fettle first. :)

I was going to say paint the sleepers and chairs first before you thread... :P

Likewise Tom, it takes me ages too, but it's well worth the effort...

You could lay your track on thin ply or artists board. Good thin ply can be expensive but both are better options than cork.

Instead of regular cork underlay, try cork floor tiles instead. These are stronger and flatter, generally around 3 to 3.5mm thick.
