Permanent Way

After a couple of days of plans not going to plan, I managed to get the soldering iron out and start building the points for Oakworth. I have found enough sleepers now to complete all three on the main board. I need to work out the tie bar issue and where they sit between bracing bars on the underside. I have made sure there is plenty of space for point monitors.

The first one is pretty easy as it is straight however always slow to get the brain cells working about the process :) Might get it finished tonight but am nursing a man flu at the mo I seem to have picked up from my work colleagues. But hot toddies are on tap...

you may find it easier building the point if you pre-gap the pcb

as for a tie bar the new trackwork book is full of ideas and i know what woks for me at least :beee:

Something else to consider when gaping the PCB, is to offset it so it's hidden behind the rail on whichever side it is viewed from. Going further you might want to use a smidge of filler to hide the gap altogether.

I've seen many hand built points in all scales spoilt by a whopping great big grove down the middle of the sleepers!

Yes Tom, I was thinking that would be good way to go and to put the break nearest the front so less noticeable with the filler idea also should be next to a platform. I aim to not have a great groove :D

Hey Julia, I wondered who would notice!?! ;) I looked around for the flattest thing I could find and that was the best, though it did work out well although I don't think I could have done a #10 :D Just trying to do a little bit every day..

Remember you've only got to break the copper to insulate. I find that 2 adjacent cuts with a scalpel are sufficient and then you can pick out the sliver of the copper foil between them.
