Callow Lane - cobbling a la Harrap - Part 3 - keep them cobbles rolling!

Over the last few weeks, I've been doing a little cobbling now and then. It's been quite relaxing in fact, especially after a busy day at work dealing with the aftermath of the recent flooding on the railway.

Now I've got to the stage where the main areas for cobbling are now complete, namely the section between the goods shed and the nearest running rail of the in-laid siding, plus the 'four foot' area of the siding itself:

The remaining work is to scribe three rows of cobbles parallel with the opposite running rail, to match the opposite side, and then scribe cobbles for an inch or so in the Tetrion filler, to represent an area that used to be cobbled but is now covered with tarmac. Some cobbles will show through here and there, where the tarmac has worn away, something like what the red lines represent:

And now, a few more gratuitious photos of the area cobbled thus far (or, more correctly, the area with scribed granite setts...):

There are one or two areas around the base of the goods shed where I couldn't quite get the Tetrion to close right up to, so these will be disguised by some sacrificial scenic dust or greenery.

A friend of mine just glues a little greenary to the building above ground level. Works very well as it does not get trapped adding and removing the building.

Great work Tim! One of those tedious and thankless tasks that really is worth the effort in IMHO. The end result, uneven unpainted, looks just right.

Load of cobblers innit - top notch job there Cap'n and none of those fancy foreign patterns we see on Quai 87, just proper British cobbling at its best.

Those setts look like they were actually put down individually by hand.

I look forward to seeing the bits showing through the tarmac. That should be a nice little job with very rewarding results, methinks.

Incredible!

You must have the patience of a Saint! but the end results look worth the trouble.

Cheers!

Superb work Capn :)

Forgive me for not reading the thread before,

but I'm very impressed with your check rails too...

How did you get that slightly duller, tarnished look to them?

..... and I really don't know where you get the patience (or time!)

for all that scribing..... It'd drive me mad - well..... more mad ;)

Hi Marc, this was achieved by the simple expedient of using P/B rail!!!
