You've been framed...again...

Buenos dias a todos :sungum:

Actually, its been raining here all weekend...can't win em all...:(

Slightly flimsy blog content this one, but just a small update as I secured the new platforms in place yesterday and have been pondering the next move to make. Rather than rush into the ballasting today I have decided to leave that until the Easter weekend...especially as I just found out this morning that the Outlaws are coming to stay next week for 12 days :O meaning they will be here, and still here, the next 2 weekends I fly back  Rest assured, the show MUST and WILL go on as there's 54 days to the exhibition...

The main decision taken this weekend is to replace the cardboard fascias with 3mm ply which I will cut using the laser at work using some offcuts my colleague has promised me. Whilst I am a big fan of cardboard, this will hopefully give a little more rigid stability to the overall set up. The new fiddle yard bases will also be in ply to match the 2 main baseboards.

I have drawn out all the components in CAD and will hopefully make a start in my lunchtimes this week.

Here's a shot from a previous entry on framing:

Now the platform has been repositioned and the colour lights are in place so after ballasting the platform canopy will be the outstanding largest scenic to be started - had better start drawing that out soon, which will probably be a plasticard structure.

Here's the latest with the 4 CEP in place and a few wagons to set the scene and the mini-me model of what I am hoping to achieve:

Isn't that just beautiful! Just one thing Pete... on the mini-me, is the section to the right a further storage area/fiddle yard or a G&T storage area. I ask purely out of professional interest of course  ;)

Good to see progress being made whilst the weather misbehaves; I need dry weather to crack-on with priming... so I'm falling behind; and this morning my small base for a display board got it's fourth pre-work varnish coat and then I found it had a crack along a 1/3 of its length  ... so watery glue applied and we'll see if that holds and I can get back on with it - just a board with two tracks.... but it'll do for now.

Have an enjoyable remainder of the weekend, and a safe flight back to cold/wet/windy Sussex.

Many thanks Jon - a G+T Fiddleyard  Bombay and a variety of mixers ;)

Seriously though, the main through train cassettes will be stored here and the opening at the front was sized to take a digital photo frame...or maybe the iPad to display some context pics.

I look forward to see what you are producing...especially the duff :good:

Thanks also Ian

The self adhesive method is for sure the way forward...

Coming together very nicely now, Pete.

I have been hoping you would return to the idea of a digital frame that you brought up some time ago. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I thought mini-me was some sort of clever architectural term you were using, until I googled it :-)

Thanks Mikkel

Yep, its the photo frame bought for my CJM layout but I would like to try and integrate it in this to help display some context for the model - I do seem to be acquiring lots of things with plugs on though now so for a small layout it requires a 5 way extension lead plug :O

As for mini-me, I confirm there's nothing 'friggin' architectural about it ;)

Good progress Pete... but 54 days! Wow, that's not very long. Now it's not often that we get a genuine sense of suspense on RMWeb.

Thanks Andy,

Yep, it wouldn't be so bad if I was still living in BCN full time but this work lark is really hindering progress....

I guess its going to be another one of those '02:00am night before the exhibition time to start fitting DG couplings' moments again :O

Hi Pete,

Ah, yes - the dreaded outlaws!!  This is exactly when our hobby comes in handy - we can escape for a few hours at least.

This is now looking rather splendid - you were always right about framing - it gives total meaning to scenic breaks.  That 4 CEP is the bees knees and is a brilliant in 2mm as it is in 4mm.   I just love those mini-me models of yours - so self explanatory - I hope you keep them and not throw them away because they'd be a delight on a display all of there own.  I know you're bored with me banging on about this, but you really ought to be thinking about showing us your methods in a bit more detail.  If you wont write a book then do a little blog on your design and planning method - your 'initial idea' drawings and mini-me models are very interesting - I know a lot of people would be dead keen to see that.

Some nice progress there Pete. I'm sure you will make your exhibition deadline and I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Thanks a lot Mike - Maybe once I have exhibited this and got the UK move back under control I can try to do an entry as you suggest ...its all a bit Heath Robinson like in my head though...and the sketches and models are more typical of how I find it best to work than any best practice.

In terms of the Outlaws, they ain't half bad really...they are quite interested in the models I make...but it did shock me when I found out the duration of the stay... :)

Thanks also Jeremy - of course 54 days assumes I am working on it everyday which of course I am unable to...probably more like a work week when you add up the individual hours :O
