Dogfish wagons

It's not much use having a layout if there is nothing to run on it, and since progress has slowed I thought some of you may like to see some 7mm kit built M&M models dogfish ballast wagons which I have built. These have been modified as each one is based on a prototype working from period photographs. They have been super-detailed (I am in the process of adding detail to certain ones) and weathered, transfers being a mix of left-overs and home-made where no equivalent exists. The vacuum pipes connect up for extra authenticity.

These are absolutely fantastic, the second one in 'rust livery' is particularly good. I've been detailing a couple of the old Cambrian kits in 4mm, but ultimately I think only brass can do justice to ballast hoppers like this.

Nicely done.

Certainly brass better in larger scale.

Plastic would have been too thick

I agree, just takes longer to assemble though.

Hi Howard,

These are looking good indeed. Be good to look at them in the flesh sometime when you're not so rushed off your feet.

Cheers

Superb weathering there Howard, they look really good.

I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism - the springs and axleguards look a little glossy in a couple of the pictures - if you attended to that, they'd be perfect 8) Weathering powders mixed with hairspray to a paint-like consistency, and brushed on, would do the job.

Pugsley,

True! I'm glad you noticed, it's spotting things like that that separate the men from the boys! I haven't got round to doing it just yet but using weathering powders like you say is just what I planned on doing. I'm waiting until the rake progresses though so that they look a little more harmonious when they are all done together, especially the rusted ones.

I acquired another two last week (old RJH version so need modding), onwards and upwards eh?

Wow wow and wow, superb job on the wagons they look so real the weathering is spot on and the washed out numbers on DB 983088 are great.

Cheers Peter.
