Derek Naylor here. Builder of the Aire Valley Railway. I have just turned 84 and have just been in the internet since christmas so to say the least I am still having problems with this new world. Had great fun trying to get in to this site.I did notice several mentions of the myself and the A.V.R. and before I go headlong into what happened to the A.V.R. and to me post the railway I an just checking to see if anyone would really find it interesting. If there interest perhaps the odd blog or two.

I'll add a me too! I'm far younger than the layout , but have read my father's back catalogue of Railway Modellers, and your articles are among those that have stuck in my mind for the last 25 years

Some of the first Railway Modeller magazines that I purchased featured the AVR. I would love to hear more about it. It was very inspirational.

Hello Derek,

I've always found the AVR and it's successor the Semerdale Railway a great inspiration. I would be very interested to hear what you've been doing since.

Wonderful to hear from you Derek, the AVR has been a huge influence on my modelling, and I still go back and the Aire Valley Adventure series from time to time.

I would love to hear more about it.

my best wishes,

I think you may be getting the drift of opinion now, Derek.

I'm another AVR fan from the early days so would be delighted to read "the odd blog or two"!

I can only echo the above comments! I'd love to find out more about the AVR, definitely a inspiration to this 1970s teenager!

Crikey! What a nice surprise - a delightful blast from our past! Yes, anything about the AVR would be of interest - one of the influential models of its era, surely. Oh, and, at 84, you are a bit of a leveller to those of us convinced we are old in our 60s!

It is an honour to be able to thank you for the Aire Valley. Along with episodes from Craigshire, the articles in the old Railway Modellers were my modelling inspiration all those years ago.  This resulted in my own modest Isle of Dhoon Railway (Rly Modeller last year) which has been evolving over the last 30+ years.  Thank you and more stories from the AVR please!!

Hello Derek, of course I remember the Aire Valley Railway, it was a great source of ideas and inspiration back in the day when I was just getting started with a layout.   I'd love to hear more of the story.

Hello Derek, the A.V.R. articles in the RM inspired me into having a go way back in the early 70s...even if I was only 10...I came across one a couple of months back when looking for something else...and it took me right back.  Cheers Derek

I'm another great fan of the Aire Valley Railway, in fact I was one of the people who wrote to you when you where selling it. I was very tempted to buy it, but eventually decided not to.

I'm glad at least some parts of it have survived - it's been an inspiration for many of us over the years.
