Boilers and Frames

PaternosterRow

Had some fun with another Dapol 9F kit. I've tried to emulate the scene below from British Railways Illustrated (August edition). The prototype photo shows a 9F being fitted with a Crostis Boiler in March 1955 at Crewe. My take, however, has to make do with a standard boiler.

This is a shot from the other side.

A final pic of the welder at work on a stripped down 4MT

Nice set of photos.

Not a criticism, but I think a bit more clutter in pictures 2 and 3 would give just that bit more realism.

Hi Mike, for a moment there I thought the first photo was your layout! The fact that I could think that shows just how good your work is.

These are superb scenes. It must have taken some time and patience to arrange them right!

Love the lighting in the last picture, the gloom in the shadows combined with the highlights from the welding looks really effective.

Lovely pics Mike.

The B+W shots are really working well for this layout

Hi Adrian,

you've hit it on the nose - I am in the process of painting up some more bits and pieces to line the roads.  So a few piccies later on.

That's very flattering, Mikkel.  I only wish I could model to that standard, but, alas, I haven't got the same patience you have.  The positioning is a bit hit and miss and I just review the photos each time and try different arrangements.  More next week after the arrival of some more goodies from Hattons.  This is my birthday present so the purchase was legal this time!!!

Cheers, Wenlock.

Yes, I've been trying to capture the perfect shot with the welder and this one does look effective.  Photography is part of the fun for me and I love playing around with light and smoke.

Thanks, Pete.

Nice to see you're still popping in from time to time.

Yep, the black and white works for me as I already think that any period prior to 1973 was all in black and white anyway (this was the year my Mom and Dad starting using colour film for the holiday snaps!)

Well done.

It's almost as if you are standing in  the B+W making those pictures.

 Thanks very much, Job.

The interior was intentionally set with washed out colour schemes to give it that historical feel.  Sadly, most of these magnificent places are now gone and the only record of them are mostly in black and white pictures.
