Preservationland escapes in to the Real World!

Yesterday, Dad and myself made the short trip up the Kemble to see GWR Castle Class 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe hauling the Cotswold Wanderer Railtour. I've never been to Kemble before and found it to be a lovely station. Everything was well maintained. Many photo,s for future modelling purposes were taken. Great cup of tea from the tiny station buffet, the bacon baps smelt good too!

As I'm pretty useless at photographing moving stuff, I set the camera on the tripod and filmed the train going through. This gave the added advantage of letting me watch and enjoy myself rather than being hunched up behind the camera. :)

Here's a few vidcaps too.

We caught this on the return trip at Kidderminster - blimey it was moving fast!  My little girl was particularly impressed as with my narrow gauge predilection she  had never seen one go faster than walking pace!

I just saw it at Didcot - having excused myself briefly from the exhibition that was going on, I managed to get lost on the way to the bridge but fortunately it had to stop at a signal just beyond the bridge so I was at least able to see it restart.

Good to see main line steam without a diesel pushing it, as for most of the summer. In the first photo, is that the curving bay platform where the Tetbury branch train left? As in the Heljan AC railbus out soon?

That's the bay for the Cirencester branch. It's still pretty much intact because Network Rail use it to store the Tamper occasionally.

The Tetbury bay is on the other side of the mainline. Though there's not much left of it.
