Frame Modifications - This is one way to do it if you use the Bachmann Class 24 frame to get it to fit into the Hornby Class 29 body. The frame is a heavy alloy casting which isn't too hard to cut and grind. Just don't get those metal shavings in the gears...

There are two thicker areas towards the center on either side of the motor- these need to be ground down flush with the side towards the top. It doesn't hurt to take the lip off the whole upper edge either. This also insures that the Hornby body doesn't spread when you push the frame up into it.

If you want to model a fuller cab with a rear bulkhead that's on the engine room side of the doors like the prototype, you also need to remove approximately five millimeters from each end of the frame. This exposes the worm gears, but the bogie is still fully functional. I used a hack saw to cut through the cast frame followed by some time on a large shop sander to square everything up and make it pretty.

I also wasn't happy with one of the wheel sets that came out of my donor Class 24. It was banging like it had a flat. The gear on the suspect wheel set wasn't actually very concentric. I moved the suspect wheel set around a bit exchanging it with other axles before I just gave up and robbed another wheel set from another 24 in the strategic reserve.

This shot shows the mods to the body and the interfaces with the Class 24 frame. Those great hunks of white styrene will come in handy when I have to modify the solebar. There's also four square chunks of styrene on the inside of the roof, the locations match the four fastener holes in the Class 24 chassis.
