An occasional blog based upon freight cars that could be used on Menasha. There are currently two exhibitions left for the layout, Skipton Aug 2014 and Wakefield Nov 2014 There is an existing blog based around a WC Russell Plow

First is based upon a Hubert Model Railroads model of a 52' 6" WC covered gondola.

It appears the model's covered steel cover is not correct so as well as repaiinting the car a new covered top will be made.

6th Feb Made a small progress so far with first two layers of the chipping and rusting being put in place to try and replicate the pattern as in the protype image.

Completed a 40ft Kaolin funnel flow tank car. This is an old Walthers kit picked up unmade from the Pontefract Show and has been painted and weathered as if coming to end of life with former company having been taken over. Needs an overall weathering wash

7th Feb next layers of rust shades and earth wash added

Grey shade added to the bottom of the stanchions and base and secondary coats to the bogies

Look forward to seeing how this develops, I have a vague recollection that Con-cor did that type of cover but on an older rivetted gon with fish belly side.

Start made by creating basic shape of the coil container top using 40 thou card as a base and evergreen 100 thou strip for sides. Top will be formed of 30 thou card

Second part of roof added and start made on the locking stanchions tor the sides. Off to the Doncaster show to see if I can get some strip and rod needed to continue

Back from Doncaster show and some bits and bobs bought so this evening should see the upright clamps in place and the main cover tidied up.

Thin slivers of rectangle tube was cut and applied to the sides of the cover to represent the openings for a fork lift to be used to lift up the cover

Top clamps now in place lining up with the small black oblongs visible on prototype. Need to fix in place thinner rod to represent the securing lug and find some small white arrow transfers to represent the ones again seen in the photo.

Last of the diagonals in place so main structure of the cover complete. Needs the divider and crane hook to be added
