kyle 2014 - lic o' paint, lic o' paint...

Afternoon all,

Subtle reference to the Fawlty Towers 'The Builders' episode in the title there :D

Little opportunities to do anymore on the FY this week so a splash of grey paint this weekend to keep things moving in the right direction whilst I work out how to resolve the electrical connections.

The fascia has been given two coats of grey paint to match the scenic section and the 2FS logos have been positioned - overall I am happy with the composition which I think highlights the sliding tray stronger now due to the letterbox format.

I include amongst the pics the join between the scenic and FY boards to show how the shadow gap helps to conceal the join, expressed by the two logos.

Next task is to hopefully lay the track to the short connecting roads and get the alignment in place for the sliding tray.

Any comments always welcome,

Pete

Classic "Neat Pete"! The open end on the scenic side adds a lot to the design, I think. Gives a nice open look, and you avoid the "view-stopper" effect of end boards.

Thanks Mikkel - Agreed on the blank ends...plus I always love to have a nose behind at exhibitions to see how peeps organise their rolling stock and a sneak of what's likely to appear 'on stage'...I am hoping the slot will de-mystify that a little...

Cheers Nic - I think...I might align some small square brass section and use mini bulldog clips for power and alignment...still pondering though. As for green I assume you mean those green 26's which used to double up for use on specials... :D

I found even the smallest bulldog clips a bit fat with cassettes resulting in stock fouling the handles/body. (Maybe I should have bought larger angle?) For me the solution was to fashion some 'clips' by making a Z bend in along the length of a strip of nickel silver about 20mm wide. One end is left long as a handle and the short end is shaped a little such that it slips neatly over the join in the angle.

For a traverser/sector plate a vertical peg works really well. Telescopic brass tubes (K&S or similar) provide the necessary hardware.

Thanks Rich - yep, still pondering that one - I will probably try and start the track and see if something becomes apparent whilst doing so...

Superb as ever - I completely agree with your comment about viewing behind-the-scenes!

Thanks Graham - the more that people try to hide and screen the Fiddleyard, the more desperate and intruiged I am to see what it is... :D

Hi Pete,

superb, just superb.  It's the crisp neatness that gets me everytime about your layouts.  Only an architect could make them this way.

Many thanks Mike - my Farish 37/4 in Large Logo livery pitched up Friday so am hoping that keeps mojo going through the festive period...
