The loco has now had the transfers added and has been given a coat of varnish. I am pleased with the way it looks, I decided to use flat varnish on the frames pony, smoke box and cab roof. The rest is all satin, which is a little shiny for my taste.

I also started the reassembly of the frames. It now has it's legs on. The motor in place The pony was only added for the photos as I do not want it damaging anything while the valve gear is put back together. The coupling rods are next along with pickups and then it can be tested at each stage.

Just to check that the two halves still went together properly. It looks quite pleasing to the eye. I still cannot get over how large it is. Must also clean off the finger prints before taking pictures too.

Sorry about the dire photos I think I need to use another location. There is too much over exposing due to the light marble window sill.

An imposing beast. I'm impressed by the paintjob. I agree about the satin, but the smokebox has a wonderful sheen to it.

Thanks Mikkel

I have started to use some acrylic varnish from a rattle can, It is an artists product. I think the matt is about right for satin but the satin is far too glossy. I need more so will look to see what else they can do.

Just one minor point, which after such good work on this build is really very minor, is that the numbers were usually larger than the lettering on the LNER livery.

Sorry about that, as this build is so much better than the poor job done for me on a similar kit, which is a tricky build I understand. Well done for all the rest of it!

Thanks  Matthew,

I was struggling with transfers. But I used V3 393 as there are photos when first built with small numbers 390 the first V3 is the same. I do agree that in most cases the numbers were larger. I was originally going to number it as per post  war livery. Tey had larger numbers.

You're right Pete, the photo that I was looking at of 393 was post war, taken in 1946.
