Modbury Bridge

Not a lot of modelling progress has been made in the recent couple of months. All of the track work on the layout has been completed (and wired). A start has been made on the scenery (or at least the land form) behind the station, and some modifications have been made to the over bridge.

I decided that the wing walls that I had originally constructed were a little too long, so these were cropped and new buttresses added to the ends. I also felt that the roadway was too wide so I took a saw to the bridge and removed a 5mm section out of one side of the road to enable narrowing to something that looks a little more like a country lane rather than a 3 lane motorway (it probably wasn't quite that wide but...)

Once the whole had been reassembled, the stonework was given an all over covering of a mortar coloured enamel, then the stonework was dry brushed in a variety of shades of greys / browny grey to pick out the stonework. The photos below show the current state of play, and now needs some weathering.

On the virtual modelling front, I have been drawing up some artwork for some GWR Dean bogies (6'4" has been drawn up, just starting the 8'6" variety). These will be for some Worsley Works coaches that I have on the go. Additionally, I want a 6 wheeled full brake (diagram V13) to go with the clerestory coaches, so that too has been drawn up (body only for now - still have the under frame to do).

Good to see some progress Ian, I've missed updates from Modbury!:-). You've captured the look of the stonework on the bridge very nicely.

Hi Ian, lovely work on the bridge, very convincing as Dave says.

The V13 looks good. Do you know if it's a requirement to supply your own artwork for a Worlsey Works project, or will they also do that if needed?

Thank you Dave.  I must pull my finger out and get some more done then :-)

Mikkel,  The artwork is not for Worsley Works themselves, I will have the etching done myself.  I do however have some Worsley Works clerestory coaches which are "scratch aid" kits and are really only the body, hence the desire to have some bogies to put below them :-)  Ideally I will end up with an A4 sized artwork before I send it off to somewhere like PPD - that may take me a while though because the 6'4" bogie sub-etches are only about 35mmx55mm (so you can get quite a lot of 2mm scale parts on an A4 sheet)!!

Thanks for the clarification Ian. Sounds like you will have room for some 4mm bogies on that etch then, they are in high demand so you could fund your project!  :mosking:

I have some of the BGS 6'4" ones in 4mm and they are nice but some people would understandably baulk at the cost.

Mikkel,

I really ought to go through my 4mm stuff one day with a view to getting rid of it.  I have 3 unmade IKB coach kits (and another part complete), Slater's clerestory's, a few loco kits and more little bits (like buffers, wheels, etc, etc) than I could shake a stick at.

Sounds like you could earn a nice little bit of money with that. I'm sure you'll find a buyer for the Slater's clerestory, they seem to go for 50-70
