GWR Gas Cordon part 3

I've finally got round to finishing my cordon. Although it looked reasonably complete in the last entry, there was a surprising amount of fiddly detail still to fit. The pipe work certainly tested my patience on occasion, forming four similar shaped curved gas filler pipes was particularly challenging! In the end it all went well, despite some fairly dodgy looking white metal castings that needed a lot of cleaning up and shaping.

The brass surface was then painted using aerosol black acid etch primer from Closterman coatings. Once this had dried transfers from HMRS were applied to simulate the prototype's lettering.

My layout is set circa 1905, so this style of lettering was only a year or so old. For this reason I haven't applied very much weathering and just picked out a few highlights in a lighter colour.

I'll finish off with a couple of pictures of the Cordon's first trip down the line to Sherton Abbas. My Metro did the honours and after running round positioned it against the stop blocks where it can wait until required to supply gas to relevant stock.

So that concludes this build, I just need to add some couplings and then I can get back to building trees for my proposed copse that will hopefully hide the private siding's exit from the layout!

Until next time.

Best wishes

Nice work Dave, the pipework may have been fiddly but adds an awful lot to the appearance. A very industrial looking vehicle.

Good to see some layout action too. Those last two shots look complete.
