Horse drawn wagon

While I was at the Telford O gauge guild show last year I spotted some rather nice horse drawn wagons. They were manufactured by a company called Parliamentary trains http://www.parlytrains.co.uk/page10.html who specialize in early LNWR stock, but also do horse drawn road vehicles. I bought examples of their "One horse wagonnette" and their "One horse Brougham" thinking they would look good positioned in the station forecourt at Sherton Abbas. As an aside to working on the main layout I decided to make a start on one of these kits.

The kits are laser cut from various thickness's of a sheet plastic material along with pieces of brass tubing and pins. The parts are all numbered and accompanied by clear instructions on how to assemble all the component parts.

I assembled the parts using cyanoacrylate which seemed to give a strong bond with the plastic components

Although the kit is made up from a surprisingly large number of parts everything fits together very well with minimal adjustment. I think the way that the kit is manufactured lends itself to finer detail than that achieved by white metal castings and I'm generally pleased with the end result. I need to find a suitable horse to pull the wagonnette, it's Wells show next month so hopefully I'll find something there:-)

On a completely different subject I need to obtain some gas lamps for my platform. The ones from Kemilway look promising, but I've had no response from either e-mail or phone calls, so I'm not sure if the business is still going. Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated!

Best wishes

Dave

That's a very smart model, Dave - it will look charming posed in your forecourt with a suitable horse.

I've been very taken with the Parliamentary trains range, based on what I've seen at Bristol and elsewhere. It's a very bold and refreshing idea to take

a look at early railways.

Thanks Al!  Totally agree with your views about the Parliamentary Range, they really deserve to do well!  On their website they hint that they hope to expand their range, I do hope that "other gauges and railway companies" includes GWR :-)

Lifted from Parliamentary Trains website

We intend to concentrate initially on 0 gauge models of the London & North Western Railway (LNWR) and its constituents, but hope to expand into other gauges and railway companies.

Very nice Dave. It was due to a comment I made about one of these on Peter Smith's Saltdean thread (0 gauge some interesting ideas) , which led to me getting a whole load of photos of Dolgelley.

Thanks Don!  I'll check out Saltdean, it's not a layout that I'm aware of!

Hi Dave, just back from holiday and catching up with the blogs. What a nice wagon, and promising to hear that it was well designed - I have been keeping an eye on Parly trains and wondering whether they might provide an opportunity for a bit of O gauge modelling. Some of those wagons and carriages are very attractive indeed.

Hi Mikkel, I hope you had a good holiday and glad you like the wagonnette:-) The Parly trains stuff is rather lovely isn't it, I'm very glad it might tempt you into a little 7mm diversion:-)

Looking forward with anticipation to your results!

Best wishes Dave
