Messing about with Bullants

Red Devil

The majority of my fleet run on Halling or Halling derived drive units....increasingly I've become less happy about their performance, some of that due to wear in the engineering plastic bushes that the wheels run in....easily sorted with replacements, and more so to the overall gearing....I always feel that they're geared too high....

So having never tried the Bullant range as I was always a bit wary of their 'all motor' appearance I did in the end decided to order a pair and try them....they are visibly taller than most tram drive units but if that is outweighed by better/slower running I'll live with it.

So far tests have basically been plonking a body on one and running it on uncleaned track without the Gaugemaster HF track cleaner in operation....results? Well I'm convinced, I think the fleet will be swapping to Hollywood Foundry drives.......this could cost a bob or two!

A very quick test video of an ex Hull car body in wartime khaki plonked.....and I do mean plonked on a 21:1 belt drive Bullant.....for future orders I'll go up to the 38.5:1 belt drive mech I think.
