Point testing in OO

Captain Kernow

For a variety of reasons I've done no modelling for over two years, but yesterday I managed to arrange things so that I could at least test a scratchbuilt OO point, that I'd built prior to that. The aim is to incorporate this and other copper clad OO points that I have available in a small new OO goods yard layout in due course.

It's not currently possible to put any of my existing layouts up at home for any length of time, so it would be good to have something a bit smaller, that I can run my existing OO stock on.

I tested the point with a variety of locomotives, so here are two examples.

Peckett 0-6-0ST 'Plantagenet' tests the point:

And Barclay 0-4-0 diesel 'Buntie' does the same:

Cosmetic chairs etc. will be added to the point in due course.

Tim,

As the rail is soldered directly to the sleepers, will the flanges have enough clearance over the inside jaw of the chairs?

A pair of delightful little locos by the way.

YEY,

Back in the fray I see, nothing like a bit of turnout building to get the juices flowing again.

Nice to see you starting something new Tim and looking forward to more of this in the future.

I trust there won't be any sausages involved! :))

No worries on that score, David, I've built points like this before (bit of laziness with this particular example, perhaps, in not putting spacers in - I have done this on other points, though, and will do so again). The inside chairs are cut-down Exactoscale ones, or will be, at least.

Good to see you back CK.

Looking forwards to this progressing in the future.

Could it be based in the far west extremes of Gloucestershire?

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark, 'back' is a relative term, although the mojo is definitely stronger than it was a few months ago.

Mid Wales or the Welsh Borders area is the most likely location. I'll start posting 'proper' blog entries when there's more to report. There aren't even any baseboards yet, although there is a scratchbuilt goods shed and weighbridge office, which I bought from a friend and fellow modeller a few years ago, when he decided to move up from 4mm to 7mm.

Great to see more from you Cap'n. Are you thinking of something like an inglenook or timesaver for this?

Sounds very sensible, for me there's nothing that boosts the creative juices more than being able to just sit down and immediately play trains, without having to unpack and set up a large layout.

Didn't you come back a month or two ago with a nice little 7mm engine? anything happening there?

Something pretty small and portable. I hopefully have sufficient pointwork and the timber for a baseboard.

Yes, I did indeed. I'm planning further 7mm purchases in the near future!

Hopefully I can make it to one of the forthcoming 7mm shows and pick up some track from C&L as well, so that I can look to build a basic shunting layout for these items.

I always enjoy the Bristol GOG show, 22/1/17 next. Good selection of traders aand layouts. Vintage bus from parkway.
