Wiking Control87

Red Devil

Now being a sucker for moving road vehicles on the FCS and obviously the Magnorail cyclist I must admit I'm tempted to add a Wiking Control87 vehicle into the mix....

These being very much like the FCS vehicles but radio controlled....not a cheap item but one of the trucks altered to say a BRS wagon being reversed in and out of some of the factory yards on Grime St would create a bit of interest at exhibitions I think.

A gimmick? Yeah probably but I always view it that we're there to entertain (or try!).

I can see the conversation now though....'Is that Faller?' ......'Erm no it's broken now 'cos I've just driven it off the baseboard!'

Thoughts anyone? Complete toylike gimmick or possibly worth adding to the Grime Street repertoire?

Quick video of one in action......

I think the idea is good, but I also think that the system would better inside one of your model vehicles. They look much more authentic and, of course, would be more Leeds-like.

It looks fantastic, but you would need to be pretty clever at controlling it amongst all those other moving vehicles - over which you don't have control!

Tony, the general idea would be to put most things in to Auto mode whilst using it on the front and driven from the front...I suppose practice and marker spots would be the ideal scenario for reversing into several different spots mostly out of the way of other stuff. We shall see!

Although working the layout from the front makes it easier to talk with the public, it also means that you can be more easily distracted and can also obstruct their view.

Will Grime Street appear at Manchester?

It'd only be for short periods of time using the r/c vehicle and front really means side end! No way could the rest of it be operated from the front.....quite simply too much going on with vehicle interaction at the rear. Operating anything like the Wiking thing would have to be done from the front as quite simply you can't see it all from behind.

Manchester? Looking like 90/10 yes......after the recent setbacks! we're getting there, if we're not at 100% operationally for Manchester then I'll be making numerous apologies but we're trying....(very!)
