Yet more renunbering

carrying on with the renumbering, there are now 3 more locos ready for the layout (almost).

First up was 6000, finishing up from where I left off last night. The first job was to repaint the rest of the underframe to get rid of the remaining elements of the lining. While I had the paint out I also had a crack at weathering the silver parts of the cylinders, adding an oily gleam and toning down the brightness.
Finally the brake rodding, vac pipe and whatever the brass bit is below the cylinders.

Next up was 5071, continuing with the back paint the tender chassis was painted (the bufferbeam still needs a coat of red however). The nameplates were a little more tricky than usual, with a lot more carefull cutting and filing needed to clear the extra "Castle Class" plate. Again this was followed by fitting the brake rodding. This will still need the tender finishing, but as previously mentioned the tender will be replaced with one from a star so I won't be wasting transfers on this one.

Finally was a Grange 6808, a little more tricky thank the king and castle as it doeshave the removable splasher/plate assembly. (So you have to adjust the plate length with the name glued in place on the model. There was a little more work needed on the tender on one side. a couple of years back when I originally started working on this loco I rebranded one side of the tender but stopped on the other after breaking through the paint. So today it was out with some GWR green and it was touched up, before adding the HMRS transfers. It still needs to be fitted with a decoder (but given the tight space in the loco I think I need something a bit smaller than my usual Lenz gold).

For all 3 locos the front numbers were removed wth Microsol and replaced with HMRS transfers, of which I have now ran out.

If any 1920s modeller wants the great crest western Sets from 2 packs of HMRS transfers I'd love to swap for the G crest W /GWR sets.

85 people have viewed this blog, and your the first to point that out! I have no idea how that could have happened, but it will be sorted once I get home from the hate show! I think I have one G W R set of transfers left......

Isn't it amazing that you concentrate so hard on what you are doing that you don't notice the obvious like that? We have all done it - I am world class at doing stuff like this... It takes the truly observant to realise too!

I've just realised however that it stands for George Rex so there's the excuse...

All the best,

Castle
