Hi Phil
It has not run yet due to me running out of D connectors. I thought I had some but most have have used them on another layout. Trying to get some more today.
I know it is the groups show that day but it is so that some of the local lads who would have gone the the Welsh National Model show here in North Wales on that day which has been cancelled can come and see the layout .
At present surrgestions for the frist engine are 8F , 9F Class 37 Class 66 so I may double head the steam and the desiels one each track at the same time.
See you
Peter

Hi All
This weeks update has a moral behind it. ??????????¬?‹?“Less haste more speed??????????¬??????? has certainly been the story this week. In trying to finish the wiring on the main running lines I first soldered up a 25 way D connect the wrong way round so I desoldered on half and decided to use a new half only to find when I had resolder the 25 joints that I now had two plugs instead of a plug and socket .So the whole process was repeated again.
I then found that on one board that I hade forgotten to put in some cables only to find that I had in sufficient room in the D connector so again I had to desolder and fit a larger D connector. I can tell you the air was a little blue . I was nearly at the point of putting an axe through the lot. In the end a stepped back and did few of the little mundane jobs . 'Less haste more speed?'
Anyway some work has been done on the South Works building and the over bridge at the end of the works, so the layout should be running for the open days on the 26th & 27th of the month.

Hi all
good news. First time today a engine ran on the layout, admittedly it was only a short distance of about 5ft but it ran Then stopped. It is the same old problem last haste more speed. Found number of minor faults missed wiresor crossed wires but it is welcome that upto now they are only a few
Should have all the main lines running by next weekend when we will be open both days for anyone to come and play trains.

Work has progressed well this week on the electrics and are on target for a complete run round of the layout for this Sat. Paul is down from Manchester with some of the stock so it should be a fun weekend If any one wants to bring their engines and stock then dont forget it is 16.5mm fine scale that we are running. Hope to see some of you over the weekend. Let us know if you can make it.

In my suitcase (its the only practical way of getting the stock to Peters by train!) is a box of Peter's BLI JGA hoppers newly weathered, a box of 50s/60s era ICI hoppers, a box of ICI 5-plank opens and three locos, a BR livery black 8F, an EWS 60, and EWS 66. I will try and take some short video clips on my phone and post them to my youtube account when I get back home to give you all an idea of what the layout looks like with trains running round. Plus some photos as well. I would have liked to taken more stock but only got so much room in the suitcase. Perhaps 37/5s and 80s ICI hoppers next time?
Cheers Paul

Hi All,
Peter and Paul here. We had a productive day working on the layout and managed to eliminate a few problems and the first train make a sucessful continuous circuit of the inner line was a Bachmann 221 Super Voyager. Quickly followed by a change of stock to a Hornby 8F and 15 ICI hopper wagons. Then a bit more electrical work to wire up the live frog 3-way points in the fiddle yard to allow the other roads to be brought into use. Then we tried a Bachmann 20 and 25 in green on the outer track, which was largely sucessful apart from one dead section to be sorted out Sunday am. Paul took some video on his phone of the Voyager going round the layout viewed from within the layout well and also outside the well. Also running on was a Bachmann 3-car green cl 108 DMU. More stock will be operated on Sunday, so all are welcome to come and visit. We will take some photos and more video tomorrow. Branches and a few other friends called as well during the day. I am beginning to feel that the last nine months has been well worth the effort.
Cheers Peter

Hi All
Well at long last the photos of the trains running. Paul will post the video clips in the next day or so but to be going on for the time being in no particular order are some of the shots. I think there is no need to say what they are. More will follow in the next few days. I am over the moon that it worked ok after nine months work both at the unit and at The Railway Study Centre. Still a few minor snags to work out but no big problems.
Peter with tears in his eyes
Oh yes what happened to Matin back in an hour Wales Still waiting for him to come.

Hi All,
Okay I hope this will work!! Here are four clips of GTD with trains running on it. Two with a Bachmann Virgin Super Voyager and two with a Hornby 9F hauling a rake of 15 loaded ICI hoppers plus brakevan. YouTube reduces the quality of the video captured by my phone but it is still good footage. Onwards and upwards with the stock now!

Hi Peter,
As yet I haven't seen the videos but the photos look good to me. That is going to be one seriously impressive layout!
The buildings are just unbelievable; the quality of modelling is first class. Can just imagine a train pulling up ready for loading.
When are you planning to have it finished?
More photos please, especially of 60s in action!

We did have two Hornby EWS 60s running round on the outer track on the BLI hoppers but they kept on derailing at the same crossing and on closer examination it was a tight back to back on one wheelset on both locos, causing it to strike the rail and derail. Also the said rail needed a bit of fettling. Hopefully Peter has managed to sort the problem out and the 60s will resume duties. So it pays to check the back to backs of new locos when using them straight out of the box.

Hi all
Been awhile since I posted anything but due to other projects ( planning the Holyhead show and also a show at the Welsh Slate Museum) very little work has been done. Fear not over the next few weeks work will advance again so please keep watching.

Hi all
At present we are building some of the diesel shunters for operation on GTD and looking at the small shunter that Neil has made for Martin Wales Tryweryn Sidings layout gave me an idea for a small matchbox shunter that I obtained the other week for 50p. What I have done is cut the cab off this and am grafting on the cab out of an old Airfix 03 shunter and using tenshodo 0-4-0 motor bogie inside the frames to make a similar stylee shunter
Below are a couple of shots of the 2 items cut and ready to assemble together. Further shots will be as it is built

Actually Pete, the little shunter is meant for Kinmundy 'Works'
