HI All
Ive been laid up since the New Year and so am rather behined with work and GTD. Anyway yesterday started to sort out some of the stock that is internal use only and have made a start on the following wagon.
It appears to have been used for inspection under the hopper loaders in both the main building and various other buildings with in the site. Form what we were told it was manufactured at the South Works in about 1960's? and was made from one of the old 5-plank wagons For the model I have used a Dapol chasis from a open wagonafter removeing the body and built the superstructure from plasticard and plastruct sections. I have still to do the railings around the top of the platform. These will be made from brasss rod. Will post some shots in the next day or so.

Hi all
A couple of shots of the wagon as it was at the begin of the week.
In the centre of the wagon floor a cutout was made and two chanel sections fitted to represent the main under frame of the wagon while at each end two flat items of plasticard .020" thick has been glued on.
The two box sections for the plateform were made from two pieces of balsa wood covered in .005" plasticard and seated onto the ends of the opening with the top plateform made from a piece of .030" plasticard. Still to do is the hand rails and the ladders.
i hope two complete the model by this weekend and will then post some more details.
Peter

Very good work, especially on the buildings, I think you've captured the look of Tunstead very well.

Hi all
Well I have final got the hand rails fitted. I have in the end used plastruct handrails istead of brass ones. This is mainly due to not being able to get the brass ones solder up and stay soldered. For some reason they kept falling apart. All is needed to complete it now is the painting. This will be done in the next few days.
Cheers Peter

Hi All
I have not been doning to much this last week down at the workshop due to being stuck at the house with the snow blocking the road out side. Any way I have done some modelling at home and one of the items is the inspection wagon has now been painted and part weathered. Still to have a bit of the old limestone dust to go on it. There are still afew other wagons of intrenal use that have to be made in the next few weeks

Hi all
Well over the last few weeks I have been busy on jobs for she who most be obayed. Painting and a repairing roofs etc. Anyway have now started on some work down at the unit on GTD and also some work on Martins layout Kinmundy which I am building for him. GTD will be completed it is hoped on the main construction in about 5 months which then allows us to finish testing it before it is hoped its first exhibition at the Hazel Grove show at the end of October this year. There is still afew points to finish wireing up. and we have added a couple more uncouplers. One main item that we found at the small club show last year was the sliding of the rail joiners over the gaps in the fiddle yard boards, the total to do at a show is 160 before and after the show so these will be replaced with each rail being soldered to copper clad at the joints and electrial supply via P & Ss.
I will post some shots in the next few days of the start of the grassing of the layout;
Peter

JGAs are sorted, I have 14 BLIs and 8 maybe RMCs and Peter has 16 BLIs and 12? RMCs that will be used on the layout although strictly speaking we are limited to running a maximum of 20 BLIs as there are only 20 real ones !! So two trains of 10 will have to suffice and in a few years time maybe some Tiphook KPAs will be added assuming Bachmann will backdate the JJA Autoballaster wagons to their original guise.
Cheers Paul

Hi all
With this lovely weather and Paul being down we decided to do some of the modifications that we found were needed after the showing of the layout last year. This was mainly doing away with the fishplates on the storage lines at the joints. There were 128 fishplates to join which took longer to do than put the layout up!! So it was decided to wire the connections via a plug. So here are some of the photos of the work in hand taken on Saturday when we put part of the fiddle yard up outside.

Hi all
Been a sod of a weekend, part of one of the trees near the cottage had a split appear in its trunk on a branch. the branch was about 20 inch Dia and about forty foot long so spent the last three days with the guys cutting it down and clearing up so have not had too much time to complete the plan of the layout. So here is what Paul has done.
What is shown is just the front of the layout and not the storage sidings which are 16 sidings 8 for each main line.
The front layout is in two halves and need to be joined to give the full view of the layout with the small section of lines in grey coming off the red and blue main lines to the bottom of the layout. Does that make sense? Anyway it gives a rough idea of what it looks like. It is 28ft long 3ft deep at the front and 2ft wide on the sides giving an overall lenght of 28ft by 10ft 6in wide. The fiddle boards are 2ft 6in wide.
Work will resume this week on wiring and some of the buildings.
Peter
