Bakewell station - Interiors and roof details

It has been a busy few weeks on the Bakewell station project. I decided that I needed to detail the interiors of the station so have been adding walls to create the booking hall, 1st class waiting room, station master's office, ladies room and porter's office. I decided that the booking hall needed a ticket booth. Next, posters and timetables were added to create the required atmosphere, Finally fire places were stuck to the walls with working LED lamps. These will be connected up to create a warm glow to keep the Peak district cold at bay!

I have had great fun doing this part of the project.

Over the weekend, I added the gutters to the roof and painted them in Midland Maroon. All seem to fit perfectly. The down pipes are ready to be added but needed to be painted today. The ridge details have now been added and the roof will then be weathered. I have still to do the roof brackets as these are to be created from CAD files as I need to add at least 30 to the model.

Now that the station is in place, tonight I decided to take some shots of the station with the trains that would have run on the line in the 1960's including the Midland Blue Pullman, Black 5 freight trains and 9F coal trains. Needless to say, I am pleased with the results.

Next stage is the installation of the canopies but I need to make absolutely sure that the station is OK before proceeding with this delicate stage

It's really looking brilliant Rob, can't wait to see your canopies, the building is just great.

Hi Alistair,

Thanks for your kind comments. Am doing some experiments with the canopies but am worried that they may be too long. Took them to the club tonight but may have to shorten them as they may hang off the platform. Will need to check that they clear the trains. What is the length of your canopies from the station wall? Width seems to be OK as they station wall is the guide

The interior plans you sent were most useful and I have based my interior on this. Thanks once again,

I'm afraid I didn't build the canopies to fit the gap between the station and the platform edge, I just built the whole thing and then positioned it so it looked right. However, as a rough guide, I think the canopies length is about the same as the main building's width, so 4 inches (100mm) or thereabouts. There is a scale plan in Bill Hudson's book, which you could probably use for comparison.

If I get chance I'll measure them tonight.

Cheers,

Al.
