Hi Peter, Can't wait to see the finished Layout in full working order, it would be great to see more pictures of the layout as and when they are available, and to see its progression slowly developing as time goes by. Keep up the good work... it looks superb... from the photos so far! Thanks

Hi all

Thanks to Jamie attached is a better plan of the layout showing the position of many of the buildings. work is still ongoing on some of the replacement wiring and alterations to the layout but have had a few other jobs to do of late so not much time has been spent on the main layout.

Does any one know if you can obtain Nem Pockets. It is just the pockets that I am after so that some of the stock can have buck eyes fitted which we have with the nem fitting on them. Hope some one can help.

With luck the first outing to a large show will be Hazel Grove show at the end of October this year. So I will have to get my skates on and complete it by then.

I'm pretty sure that Roger Chivers sells the NEM pockets separately from his kits

Worth contacting him?

Hi all

Well after a little op on my head last week (trying to find my brains icon_biggrin.gif ) I am now starting work on the flocking of the layout at the same time s I am doing Kinmundy for Martin. Two hours was spent today around the road tunnel from the main Quarry to the sidings and on the rock faces. I will post some shots on tomorrow of what has been done to date.

Hi all

here are some of the photographs of the work so far about four hours worth. Materials used are mainly Woodland Scenics. I feel that the rock faces now look a lot better than they were before when i was not too happy with the way they had turned out and I was thinking of redoing them.

Hi all

Can any one out there say what the actual colour of normal concrete is. Was painting today on GTD models some of the concrete sections and some fellow modellers said it was the wrong colour. What colour do most of you fellow modellers use. I have first sprayed the surface with contact glue then cover the surface with Talc. to give a rough texture finish and then painted it what I belived was a concrete colour made up of light stone mixed with a drop of light grey and a hint of light brown all out of the humbrall range.

Peter.

Concrete colour can vary from Grey to light pink depending on the mix used and the colour of the aggregates. Also some concrete is deliberately coloured. The red of the cooling towers at Ironbridge power station is the result of the deliberate addition of colouring pigment.

Hi all

Have done a fair bit on the landscape this last few days as well as some work on the buildings mainly painting them and spraying while the sun is fine outside. Have painted some of the concrete structures and cover them while wet with Talc to represent the limestone dust. Another job that is being done is the grinding up of Cat Litter to represent the lime stone, some to fine powder and some into small rocks . This is the mixed with talc to give it a further whiteish colour before it is laid down between the tracks in the main yard and sidings. Just at presten I dont want to casue any further problems to Andy and the Mods etc they have a enough on their plate so will post photos of it all when things return back to normal.

Allo

Great, now i can see the photos, well done Andy.

Peter,

i have been producing a model biased in the same area (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=42227)

After several trips to the peak district, i am still not happy with the rock and cutting faces. I have noticed that the color is not constant, and that new cuts (ie. The quarry face) are almost white. These weather in time through a yellow brown to a mid gray color. Today, you can see the contrast between the working quarry's and the darker gray 130 year old railway cuttings, so setting the scene of my layout around 1936 i had to have a guess at the color.

Ps, i thought my lump of the peak was ambitious, but Great Tunsley Dale, knocks it into insignificance. Keep up the good modeling

Gary

Looking good Peter icon_thumbsup2.gif Just the sort of scenery I was thinking of. The green scatter and foliage contrasts well with the grey of the rock faces.

Gary, that is a nice layout that you are building there.

Cheers Pau

Hi all

Just some shots of the way that the layout is coming togther. Some of the buildings have been finished painted and I was wandering what the comments are over the colour of the concrete. Still the limstone dust to go around the base of these buildings.

The rust on the small hopper at the bottom is dome with the rust compounds. Instant Rust? Hope it looks OK.
