Coming on nicely now. The new building fits in well at the front of the layout. I hope to see the progress and more when I visit towards the end of the month.

Hi all
Work is progressing on the buildings but due to the weather I have not been able to do the bulk of the spraying out side . I hope to do this this weekend. I Hope!
Coming to a plea for help now. Dose any one out there in our fellow members know if there ever was any form of watering facilities for BR steam engines at Tunstead Quarries and if so what was it i.e. water crane or a tank. If not did engines have to go to Peakforrest to water. On the layout during steam days operations it is intended to stable steam trains in a short siding by the main storage yards and I am thinking of puting in a water crane?
If anyone knows or has any comments on the placing of this please feel to say.
Peter

Hi 18b
I haven???‚¬?„?t got my mag yet. Must go and get it from the village today. GTD is not only an exhibition layout but is designed to be part of a new layout that I am building at my home and Railway Study centre here in North Wales. The new shed when its is built (hopefully next year) will be 65ft long by 25 ft wide and along one wall will be GTD representing Tunstead then Peak Forest followed by Gowhole sidings. Within the shed will also be my other exhibition layouts Porth Eithin, Porth Penhryn, Isaf Wheal (under construction now) and the remains of my old layout (no name) plus many other bits of odd layouts that I have made. A lot of track work i.e. points has all ready been made together with buildings, like the station buildings of Kyle. There is a large coal mine complex which I have to finish of one day. But for the time being I a have to finish GTD for the show circuit this year and next. Would love to take it to some of the big shows like Warley, York, and Manchester etc. Can only hope that I get some invites. In the mean time it is at Hazel grove show which is a great show with a lot of trendily guys. And a great atmosphere.
Peter

Hi all
Just a quick update. With the weather like it is have spent most of the time working on the main building models. Today I have made a small cyclone unit for the vertical lime kilns and done some paint of small parts on it. I have also finished the roof and painted it on the Dale Lime firms building as well as building a ventilation fan housing and motor for the flat roof on the building. In the background of one of the shots can be seen the large hopper building which I messed up on the brickwork and had to strip the paint off. Serves me right for doing it at Midnight tired and wrong colour of paint Next morning Ugh. Also can be seen the three round silos which have been built as one unit and just need a few small touches to complete.
All going at this point to plan and on time for the trial erection on the 26th Sept. at Tal -y- sarn. Hope to see some of you on the Sunday.
Peter.

Hi all
Just aquick update. Most of the work last week has been on completing the buildings, painting them and weathering. The layout has had a lot more of the scenery done to it and fitting of new plugs and sockets on the fiddle yard boards has started. Will post some new pictures early in week. One thing that I am doing is painting the small diesel shunter that I started sone time ago and a felow member said I was spoiling the layout by putting on a freelance diesel ( it is based on a real one). It had been put into the scrap box but a few of my friends here have pursuaded meto finish it in a nice deep blue livery suitably weathered.

Hi All
Well as stated here are some of the shots of the progress of items to date.
The small shunter is being painted in a deep blue and then will be weathered some that it can either be used on GTD or Porth Eithin the china clay layout.
The shots of the last fan vent and chimney for the Vertical lime kilns
And also the steel frame work for the stairs up the side of the lime kilns.

Another pictorial update from wild Wales (weatherwise ). Jamie aka 7APT7 brought along some of his new rolling stock including the Model Rail Network Rail 97/3 aka 37 and some of his test coaches to place on the layout. Some of the buildings have now been positioned and the smaller huts and sheds have been glued down and bedded in to the scenery.
Don't forget September 27th at Talysarn Village Hall to see the layout working!

Hi all
Just a couple of shots on the progress todate. Other work that has been completed this week is all the new connectors on the fiddle yard have been soldered up. A lot of the flocking on the other bords has been completed as well as the large cutting in to the tunnel. The inn on the top road has nearly been finnished just wants the outhouse weathering. The down side is that we have a short on the points into the main hopper roads and we cannot find it
The three shots are of the signal box at the south works junction. This is based on Great Rocks box and when complete will have the flat roof that Great Rocks box was fitted with after the fire in the roof a number of years ago.
Peter.

Hi
. How did you make the Tunsley Dale Central 'box?
Looks like a cut down Ratio kit?
__________________________________________
??? posted on Sun Sep 06, 2009 9:14 pm
Hi 18B
Yes, the central box is half of a Ratio box. The worst part doing the roof. The south box again is a Ratio box modified. The third box, not shown yet, watch this space, is the full Ratio box. All have the Springside detailing kits fitted inside.
Have I missed anything off, will put dustbin outside as per your photo.

hi,
here's the box in 2002 more how you;ve done it, notice however that the steps are the origional design where as yours as from the refurbishment as the box looks now,
The frame in great rocks is 34 levers long and at the back of the box, the token machine is near to the door on the back side, on the back wall there is also a little window looking out onto the three sidings at the back.
Note that in those sidings freightliner have been known to use them to stable engines,
The signal box diagram is virtually as is now, but has been redone as the signal on the other side of the bridge, 18, 17, 34, has been changed to a single arm and two dollies, anyone know why this was done, circa 1982/4ish?
