This is a new thread from me. It is my China Clay line called Porth Eithin. Some of you will no doubt have seen or heard of it. It has over the last five years been to a number of shows around North Wales and the North West of England. It also has appeared in Model Rail and on the Model Rail C/Ds. icon_thumbsup2.gif

Any way it is based on the harbour of a small branch line terminus where the china clay is brought down from the mines for either shipment by sea of rail. The idea being that the line to the mines is further up the branch with no direct access down the branch to the main lines, so all traffic to or from the mines most first come into the branch terminus? This allows engine run rounds on freight traffic up to the mines.

The period that the time was set was the end of steam and the green diesel era. But at one show just recent it round in modern day. icon_biggrin.gif

The reason that I have stared this new thread is that it is to be extended by an addition of 12ft to encompass the line at the mine /quarry end. I most admit that this has been the intention to do this from the start but like everything else time and other projects have come between its starting. What has pushed me to start it has been Wheal Elisabeth by Ugly pug, mainly that drying shed. It has given me the kick start to the project even through Great Tunsley Dale is not finished yet nor is Kinmundy for Martin Wales. icon_frustrated.gif

The theory is that it will be a stand alone layout with its own fiddle yard or can go out with Porth Eithin to create a long layout of some 28ft. ( Wendy says I should build a small layout that I can carry under my arm. No fun in that) Any way over the next few weeks will post the new design for the track plan but in the mean time here are some shots of the layout as it is today. icon_thumbsup2.gif

""What has pushed me to start it has been Wheal Elisabeth by Ugly pug......................""

I know he's no oil painting, but that's a little harsh!

Good luck with this by the way.

I thought it looked really good in Model Rail. I hope I can catch up with it sometime.

Cheers

As requested, here are some more photos of Porth Eithin taken by Jamie (7apt7?) at Llanberis show earlier this year when the layout was being operated in Modern Image mode. Sorry to ullypug icon_redface.gif icon_wink.gif for getting your username wrong!

Cheers Peter icon_clap.gif
