Bakewell station Goods yard

I have finally made a start on the goods shed area. Although not quite as in the real prototype, a bit of modelling licence has come in.
Essentially Bakewell coal yard has moved nearer the goods shed rather than adjacent to the station due to space restrictions and width of the baseboards. My friend Ron from the High Wycombe club has been helping out with construction and painting the area. The area now has a weighbridge so that vehicles.can enter the yard in one area before proceeding to load up next to the wagons. The addition of Wills sheet cobbles has really added to the effect and by next weekend, the area will be finished.

I am adding general grime and coal dust to the track using das clay which will then be painted to form a dirty industrial mess.

In the meantime here are some photos of the goods shed under construction. The shed itself is a realistic copy minus one of the arch doors due to space limitations

You've made a great job of the goods shed, Rob, it's immediately recognisable, even though it's missing the third door. It really captures the feel of the prototype.

Nice work again,

Al.

Hi Al,

Thanks again for your kind works. The goods shed was a joint project between myself and my friend Ron. It was essentially a challenge to see if a good result could be obtained using traditional scratch building techniques as against using CAD drawing and laser cutting as I used for the station itself. Obviously, the goods shed was a simpler structure to make than the station as there was less complexity with the recessed stonework doors and windows. Still, it is a fine piece of modelling.

One of the benefits of the goods and coal yards is that I can add some significant shunting operations to the layout and can now bring goods trains in and split up the wagons. My 4MT tank is very useful for this. In a few months I will be adding ground signals to this.

I would like to consider adding platform lamps/ working lights. Not sure where you posted your entry amongst the 200+ entries of your blog!!
