I always imagined the Henry 2 continued the Kipper duties so it's still fitting

Apparantley there was a train from Birkenhead docks called the flying skipper.

Ahh so even more of a real life link than I thought! I like those little fact nuggets.

 

I had a look and found this mention of 'The Flying Skipper' as well.

 

 

Some of the trains running through Upton bore poetic names such as “The Farmer’s Boy” (from Bristol), the “Northern Flash” (from Paddington), “The Flying Skipper” & “The Northern Docker” (both from Wolverhampton) and “The Cambrian Pioneer” (to Oswestry)
