Hornby Dublo R1

Dropped into the Thetford MRC open day. Nice bunch of people. Picked up a Hornby Dublo R1 for a Fiver. We put in onto the track and no sign of life but a quick clean of the wheels kicked it reluctantly into life. It will get a good clean and lube and hopefully that will get it running smoothly. To be honest at that price it wold have been silly not to take a punt on it!

I've always really liked those. I did one up many years ago, hollowed out the coal space, put turned Romford driving wheels and new coupling rods on it and put a curved underside of boiler in place. I then re-sprayed it and lined it out in BR mixed traffic lining (which I know they never had!).

Cleaned the wheels and lubed the gears and it's running sweet as a nut. The motor is is good condition but one of the brushes is very worn and I'll need to find a replacement soon.
