Hi everyone,

I thought I would start a blog documenting my progress on my oo guage layout: 'Buckdale'. The layout portrays a fictional single track branch line, set somewhere just south of the Yorkshire Dales in the late 1950s, and consists of four 8' x 2' baseboards positioned in an L shape.

This being my first 'proper' layout, it would be great to receive any advice, suggestions and recommendations other modellers may have to offer on here in regards to authenticity and improvements. I started the project in August of 2017, and am fortunate, being a university student with plenty of free time, to have made more progress over the summer months than many would be able to in years. The plan was to sink in as much time as possible while had the chance. I have managed to get the 32' layout to a state in which it appears somewhat complete, although a million small jobs and improvements remain to be done. Being way too young to have experienced steam back in its day, a lot of inspiration was taken from heritage lines.

Two stations are modelled, Buckdale and Pondon. Buckdale has goods facilities, a loco shed, cattle dock, coal yard and various sidings. Pondon has fewer facilities, with a goods shed and small engine shed. 18' of Yorkshire countryside separates the two stations. The plan was to resist the temptation to clutter the baseboards with track, and to model a sleepy line almost lost in the scenery, as this is what I enjoy modelling the most. The end to end nature of the layout has also made it very enjoyable to operate, despite its simplicity. The wiring is extremely simple, and the layout is operated with a Guagemaster Combi controller. More to come...
Attached are some photos of the layout, as well as a link to my YouTube channel.

Very impressive, I do like the long run through the countryside. Glad you decided to do that and resist the temptation to cram too much stuff in
