He tells me he has used Brooklands Green which he says is the agreed colour amongst modellers. As you can see it isnt correct by a long way. Interestingly the colour on the can top is much darker than that on the sprayed model. The recommended Hycott primer was used.
So what to do now? Do I completely respray or would a mix of matt varnish with a little added black make it acceptable?
Anyone had any experience with this please?

On the topic of BR diesel Green, I wish he had used Railmatch as I gather that is pretty close. Laurel green is also mentioned but I'm not convinced its correct. I have also used Land Rover Deep Bronze Green in the past and its near but perhaps a little too yellowy. There is also the aspect of gauge as a model painted with a given colour will look different in N gauge to one in O gauge due to surface area. I will be weathering the model but I can't start it with this shade as a base.
I would appreciate any comment on the above.

Interesting and disturbing.

I agree the colour that came out of the (presumably Halfords or Hycote) Rover Brooklands Green can is wrong, but the troubling aspect is the colour on the can top not being the same, and much darker. I don't know whether this is a paint manufacturer's quality control problem, or whether Rover Brooklands Green should be regarded as being suitable in the first place.

Would you regard either of the colours given in this post more suitable?:

Btw, just found this, an interesting thread on a car forum, where Halfords is often described as Halfrauds:

Tricky one.  The green on your D6xx could look similar to the Bachmann green on newish warships etc ON ONLINE PHOTOGRAPHS. I am currently working on a OO Kernow special D845 which I believe is fairly standard Bachmann BR green. If you do image searches for it online the reproduction of the green is far lighter than in reality. Obviously that doesn't apply in your D6xx case.

Thanks for the feedback

I've looked at the two images but it's extremely difficult to check them as such small images.....am I doing something wrong? I would probably go for the G46 B3 but I cant really tell from this. Certainly, when built, the shade of BR green was dark and would fade in service. I have actually mixed a tin of the real stuff and it started as yellow and after 15 minutes of stirring with a drill and a paddle the green started to come through. This confirms that BR green has a considerable "yellow" aspect and if you look at it with this in mind you can actually see this. The forum on colours is very interesting if a little too deep for me. I was involved in printing and PANTONE colours were always associated with inks NOT paints.

Anyway, I hear all the comments on car sprays and have to accept that, for whatever reason, the shade is way out and I wont allow these to be used these again. I guess Railmatch is the best option but do a test spray first. Anyone got experience with Railmatch BR green on O gauge locos?

Finally, would still appreciate comments on how to solve this disaster. Is the tinted varnish a possibility?

What about spraying it over black etch primer like Clostermanns rather than the grey it recommends, which, of course is for colour matching to a vehicle? Just a thought. See my next post.

I should have added that I did this but can't link to the pic. Have a look at the last entry in my gallery on here with this 00 gauge Cometmodels kit as a commission for a rebuilt Scot. Finished with a coat of satin varnish. Fixed link now, pic below.

Cheers

That's a good idea and your model looks good but then I would have to start again and still have to do the top coat. Might as well just mask it and spray with Railmatch BR green. Was just hoping there might be something worth trying without needing to respray.

Thanks

Not sure where to ask for help on this. I need a sound module for the class 43 (Big Warship) for the above mentioned JLTRT O gauge loco. Basically it would be 2 x class 22 sound but when I've made enquiries at shows I've had no success. Anyone suggest someone who could put the sound on a Loksound V4 (not VL4 as large module is not needed)

Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Steve

Your tender photo certainly looks the correct shade. I'm still debating over what to do but I'm likely to try a coat of Railmatch on top first....nothing to lose. Hoping to get the sound sorted at the same time....see above

Thanks for your comments

Update...I've oversprayed the Halfords Green with Railmatch BR green. I had to mask the yellow end which was fairly successful with a bit of seep. Looks OK now and I've fettle the yellow ends as well. It's also had the light grey side band added plus the sound module. Just a bit more to do and then I'll post a photo of the final result.
