Just noticed you have not had any replies.   If I was in your shoes I'd be looking on ebay.  If I have understood correctly what you are after I have just seen several products that might suit your purposes.

That's more what I was thinking about - sure they must be available over here, if not, will look out for one next time we visit our daughter in Auckland....

That's a good idea as I already have a jigsaw, which normally only sees service for baseboard construction....
