Getting it all together.

Something has to be done with my languishing Churchill project this year. The trouble is I am going of the idea of having a through station and don`t relish the work to make two fiddle yards at either end.

blogentry-17779-0-44593700-1547241837_thumb.jpg

I`m leaning towards changing it all to a GWR country terminus complete with an Engine shed so that I can keep it all in the shed and just play trains whenever I feel like it. And of course start another layout project afterwards.

The signal box is based on St Mary`s Crossing

The main buildings are based on Portesham in Dorset...

Do I go for it ?? just the Engine shed and cattle dock to complete. And of course a new platform........

The new buildings look superb.

I couldn't put my finger on it until you mentioned it and now I recognise the signal box, St.Marys Crossing, Brimscombe, lovely little box and nicely modelled too.

My ongoing project will be a country terminus due to the requirements of fiddle yards ( plural ) which could cause unnecessary operations ie - spoil the fun of playing trains.

If your current scheme of Churchill gives you pleasure then maybe stay with a terminus which can be given lots of small details without overpowering the overall scene ?

I always refer back to the blogs of Dave aka Wenlock and his 7mm GWR terminus Sherton Abbas.

Either way I would congratulate you on the alterations to the resin buildings, they certainly set the character of a small GWR station.

I will certainly look forward to future updates on you work.

A fiddle yard needs be little more than a broad shelf with a length of plain track, if you don’t mind a short delay while changing stock (but even then, on a real railway, the train needs to clear the section, and the next train in the opposing direction needs time to get through, too.)

Maybe a bit late to the show with this question, but you don’t seem to have a catch point on the longer goods siding, the one which comes off the double slip.

Have I missed it?

Well, the dye has been cast...... the through Station is no more.......

Track work has been uprooted and a base for the engine shed is in situ......

GWR water fascilities have been carefully fettled from an old whitemetal kit......

The long awaited cattle dock at the front has been made.....

A replacement signal box, not made by me, but snapped up on ebay made by a longstanding regular seller was snapped up and is fully detailed internally and fits well at the end of what will be a new platform..

The  new detailed platform will be fabricated platform in the next few weeks using 422 Model Making products....

Time for an update as the Lockdown has forced some shed work of late...…..

DSC02370.JPG.6d56f497a23fddb0dff1148638259f98.JPG

Firstly the trackwork has had a dose of etch primer as I hate seeing unpainted rails or rails that have been painted and the paint is chipping off...

I`ve used Clostermans etch primer and then airbrushed a mixture of Phoenix/Precision track enamels.

It is a very unusual, but very interesting track plan. Is it a through station?

Best wishes and kind regards,

So the last loco has been built and it`s time to crack on with this layout. I have been visiting it on and off over the past year , but was interrupted by catching Covid.

Firstly the Engine shed watering fascilities have been changed.

The goods shed has been re-positioned onto the platform but still needs bedding in.

At the other end of the diorama the crossing gates have had their servo motors and associated gubbins removed as they were a total waste of time. They seemed to be activated at the slightest interference from point motors , awitch movements and low flying aircraft !

The gates are now operated by hand having built a rubber band operated mechanism......

All the track ballast has been chosen and mixed together with many other ground cover materials......

Today I am experimenting with Heki static grass products

There must be some personal satisfaction having completed your “final” ? piece of motive power ( superb build ) and now moving back to the layout John.

Interesting to see your decision about the crossing gate mechanism, but seeing and hearing the operation there seems to be a real human interaction now which I certainly would find very satisfying, I hope that you do too ?

Once again I look forward to watching progress and trust you are now feeling well.

A real credit to you for all the time spent so far and now being able to "play" with that superbly running Railmotor, really enjoyed the video, thank you for uploading it here.

Thanks Graham,   things are running well now despite the layout being idol for at least three years. I had a bit of a scare as one dropper on a 6 inch length of track was a casualty of the ballasting but I was able to use a soldered fishplate to an adjoining piece of rail which saved a lot of hassle. I`m hoping to sort out the fiddle yard , which I`ll have to do outside the shed, before summer ends. I`ve got some of Phil`s Intentio cassettes to assemble.

Of course the Railmotor did`nt survive in this form past 1932 when it was converted into an Auto coach.

"PLAYTIME" and quite rightly so, I should imagine it's very satisfying to finally get your models on the track and see them running John.

Thank you for posting.

It`s been great getting away from loco kit building and the layout is now progressing.

I`ve had a period of grassing up with the Flockit using predominantly German static grasses of varying lengths which seem superior to the £20 wasted on some GB stuff which failed to take a static charge!!

At long last the layout now has a fiddleyard thanks to some of Intentio`s  cassette kits...
