HI Alan - love the look of the buildings. Can I ask how you built the staircase? I was looking for something like this on my layout but my first attempts weren't great.

Quite delightful!

Tweedale - a 21st century modelling classic. The ability to describe it in an entertaining fashion just ices the cake.

A 'like' doesn't really do it justice so I've given it a 'craftsmanship/clever'!

Excellent. It may be that the houses of Castleport "offer little of architectural merit" - but the modelling certainly does. A lesson also that it pays to think vertically when designing a layout.

Mark, I was going to build the steps from pieces of balsa, but then someone took pity and gave me a sprue of assorted plastic ladders and steps. I don't know for sure if they are the same make but the nearest I could find on the internet was a kit produced by Central Valley Model Works, an American company.

Mikkel, I might have gone too high with the castle. It sits above the top level of the frame at the front so you need to stoop to see it.

Love the way you’ve stepped the houses up in no space at all.

Ah but they are that rarest of properties, 'affordable homes'.

Northroader, Neil, thanks for your input. The houses may well be space-thrifty and affordable. The catch is you'd be hard put to find a room large enough to fit a bed, let alone the stairs to reach it.
