Manor chassis pt3

I have made a little progress on the Manor chassis.

Having decided upon an approach, I have set to work modifying the chassis.   1mm needed machining off the top of the front / rear of the extended frame.

The wheels were then refitted and test fitted into the body.  Matching up with 1470 and a van, the ride height looks spot on now.

Now the clyinders can be assembled, after which I work out what I am going to do about the hole above the front frames.

At the risk of being accused of rivet-counting, may I make a suggestion regarding what looks like a far better model than I could achieve:
Shouldn't the buffers be the later parallel type rather than the earlier taperer body variety?

Now that’s a good question,

i just  used the parts which came with the kit, certainly in BR days the loco had parallel buffers.  But I don’t know when the change was made.  Despite lots of looking I have yet to find a 1940s photo

No photo of 7804, but a 1946 photo of 7805 confirms tapered buffers.  I think the odds are that my model is right (until I hear otherwise)

As Manors were from CB Collett's era (and probably with a lot of influence from a certain Frederick Hawksworth), it seemed likely to me that they would have had the parallel style. However, when I looked up the Great Western Archive, it stated that the first batch of 20 (Swindon Lot 326) were built using parts from Churchward's Moguls whereas the second batch of ten used new parts throughout. If you are building 7804, it is likely that it would have out-shopped with the old Mogul buffer beam and fittings. Sorry to have caused any consternation!
