Cheddar P4 - June 2019 update

Please to report the goods shed is nearing completion. A few bits to fettle and awaiting ridge tile tops from Scale Link, but it's nearly there. Goods shed detailing will be limited to a crane and a few loads on the platform. Just need to paint them up.

Andy, what is the source of the stonework?  I don't recognise it?

Also, was the roof really laid with pantiles?

It's Green Stuff World ABS sheet. Rather nice too. http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/textured-sheets/155-abs-plasticard-smooth-rock-wall-sheet-a4.html

Closest thing I've found to Mendip coursed limestone.

Yes, the roof was laid with Somerset double roman tiles, not pantiles. Same with Axbridge and Wells Tucker Street. I guess due to the shallow pitch. The station building was plain/curved tiled.

John Palmer on the scalefour site put me onto a source on Aliexpress:

Andy, as you know, I work on a ‘need to know’ basis; and. I need to know where the barge boards come from! Nice work, cheers, Dai

Hi Dai

I had them cut by York Modelmaking to my own drawings. If you'd like them I had a spare set of 4 cut which I won't need now.

Superb, Andy. And a lot of character in the details, those barge boards really are special.

PS: Doesn't time fly when you build models. I'm sorry to say this isn't June 2018 :D

Yes please! Reminiscent of B &M station bargeboards —- at their posh stations, that is. Pick them up at a show sometime? Dai

Hi Andrew,

One question already answered - I was going to ask if the stonework was "pre embossed" or whether you had scribbed it on - either by hand or possibly with a digital cutter - did you use a digital cutter to cut the individual sides, ends windows and doors out? (If so which one have you invested in?)

All very impressive - keep inspiring me, I will get around to my layout one day!

No, it's actually very old school. The apertures for the windows etc are cut with a piercing saw then filed/sanded with the foam sanding sticks you get from Eileens/Squires etc.
