Plan of layout

Fen End Pit

I realized I hadn't posted a plan of the layout on the blog yet and thought folk might be interested.

This afternoon I painted most of the remaining track on upper level. Unfortunately I had run out of the ballast I used on the first part and have had some fun trying to match up the colours. Note to self, next time make sure I have enough to do the whole layout before I start.

An F5 approaches Empire Basin hauling a short parcel train. The works of National Motors and Switchgear is a based on various bits of Scalescenes building and is still in need of a back and some floors.

Looking in the other direction a Sulzer Type 2 class 24 pulls up towards what will be the sight of the advanced starter. Following discussions on the forum this will now have a shunt-ahead arm to allow movement past the signal prior to reversing into the goods loop. This is actually the tightest radius on the scenic section.

Various associates have suggested I should install a 3rd (and 4th) rail to make the section look like the North London line. I am ignoring these, for the moment.

Back to work tomorrow so progress will no doubt slow back down to a normal pace. That is the trouble with this working lack, it means you have the money to spend on important things like model railways, but it gets in the way of having time to build them.

Hi David

Very impressed with your P4 layout and glad to see the track plan, it has given me the motivation to start to design my track plan (i am lucky to have a 24x12 home office as my hobby room). The idea of an urban layout has certainly got me thinking. I was looking at purchasing templot for designing the track plan but i have had mixed feedback as to how easy it is to use have any views on this package?

Pete

I've not used Templot, but I've obviously heard good things about it. I think like all these tools they take some learning. I drew my plans in TurboCAD, which I also use for other CAD projects, building drawings etc.
