GWR 70' Post Office Sorting Van - Step 1. Introduction.

Something a little bit different, for me, at least.

This coach is to be lightly weathered, to represent a vehicle running in the 1930s. I don't envisage using large quantities of anything, but the difficulty will be to portray a very light coat of dirt without making it look blotchy.

I plan to use pigment for most of the work - AK Interactive Dark Earth. Application will be done using small brushes, probably a round no. 2 and a filbert no. 2 or 4. Being a panelled coach, the real challenge will be to represent the dirt buildup around panel edges, and then to photograph this so that it can be seen.

Hi Mick

Why have you chosen not to use a Panel Line Wash for this work?

Superb.  Good to see in '30s livery, when they were very much still going.

What is the model?  I could do with L13 and L14.  I think Trevor Charlton might have done them.  Old management 247 Developments did one, but very late condition with much of the panelling gone. Not aware there is an option currently available.

Hi Tony,

The panel lines aren't sufficiently well defined to ensure that the wash runs only in the corners and edges. It could have spread over the surface too far for my liking, resulting in excessive clean-up.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I'll make enquiries.

It is thought that the coach is kit built from an A.F. Hammond kit, produced in the late 70s or early 80s.
