Planning, Planning, Planning

For a while I've had an idea about having some kind of loading/unloading facility in the centre of the layout in between the Scalescenes Boxfile and the hill/cutting. I finally bit the bullet and bought the Walthers Bulk Transfer Conveyor Kit from Gaugemaster. Great service, good price compared to importing from the USA and postage free 🙂

So last night I built one of the conveyors and started looking at where it all might fit in

Think this is about it, I'm going to trim off the left hand edge of the curved apron as the idea of dumping spoil onto the track seems silly. I have also got to modify the base where the HO track passes over the underground pit as it's going to be 9mm track and of course the entry track needs slewing quite a bit on the plan. I always knew this would be the case though ....

It seems like bashing Walthers kits is going to be a recurring theme when I build Collieries!

A suitable lorry or somesuch under the conveyor will also help to set the period of the layout, once I've decided on what that is!

The kit also came with supports, wire and plastic mesh to make up some chainlink fencing. No instructions for this though, but might come in handy somewhere.

Nice idea, I like see-through objects like this which add height and depth without dominating too much.

The track is captivating already.

Got some more work done on the conveyor over the weekend, despite helping out at Wycrail Friday evening and all day Saturday. Tipper area modified to allow for 9mm track and every other bar on the grating removed to better allow some Woodland Scenics Cinders to drop through.

Apron cut back too as there's no way you'd want to dump spoil onto the track!

Instructions have also been downloaded from  Walthers for the chain link fencing. Not sure yet if I'll use it though.
