Nice work as usual Mark. H & A models sell etched tiebars from Cambrian in different wheel bases.

They look great, looking forward to seeing some paint.

I have just recently got into kit wagon building and i love all the extra bits that people do to the kits.

Hi Mark

 

1mm x 1mm brass angle from Eileen's is my choice for tie bars.  

 

Can't remember who put me onto it but it is a bit more robust than flat strip, and hard to see the difference if you put the horizontal leg pointing inwards, at the bottom.

 

 

Tie bars? Have you fitted vacuum brakes?

Some very nice mods there Mark.

 

Once these are finished, painted and weathered using your techniques they should look fab.

 

Look forwards to see the write up as to which layout they will be running on...assuming you are not regauging them to 009

A nice retro 80's modelling experience influenced by Keith Allen's articles in the Railway Modeller. 

 

Looking forwards to weathering them. They should have plenty of character.

 

As for layout options they may appear on the new Northamptonshire project. Watch this space for further details.

Could always put them on a roll-wagon to run on 009..

Both sides of the wagon have the lever to the right as you stand looking at it.

This means the lever on one side has to turn the rod the same direction as pressing down on the lever, but the other side has to rotate it in the opposite dircetion to its lever.  There's a linkage on one of the levers to do this, so it matters which side you fit the levers to.  If I recollect correctly, that's shown in the kit instructions.

Sorry Terry, the Airfix kit is of the standard 1/108 mineral which has Morton unfitted brake rigging. Its just they put in two sets of brakes when only one was needed. Its years since I made one, but there are no thousands of photos to copy to get the brakes on the correct side and the dog clutch similarly on the correct side. Amazingly considering how many workshops built these wagons they were totally standardised in the position of these and the door end. The earlier wagons, apart from door complexities had a pair of V hangers on each side to give the independent brake rigging.

Independent brakes each side were reserved for bottom door mineral wagons, 2 V hangers each side, no cross shaft and no dog clutch required, and do-able with a bit of modelling from the Airfix kit. The Cambrian version of the LMS mineral has this right.

Terry, you are correct in that the ones in the OP are the wrong way around. Either the shoes and push rods need reversing, or a Morton lever instead of a standard one fitted.
