Dapol Fruit 'D' detailing project.

A while back I ordered 3 un-decorated GWR Fruit 'D' wagons from Dapol. As you've previously guessed I do like Dapol for a source of modelling projects.

I understand the bodyshell for the Fruit 'D' has a venerable past and there are some dimensional inaccuracies. However Dapol have breathed life into it with a new chassis. With this I feel it makes suitable layout NPCS vehicle offering a bit of variety.

Fruit D's

These 3 have received Lanarkshire Model Supplies buffers and roof ventilators which gives a bit more finesse.

The roof had been sprayed with Tamiya German Grey. The sides use a psuedo BR Crimson from Citadel brush applied and the chassis is sprayed with Tamiya NATO Black. Wheels are standard Dapol inked in with a black Sharpie indelible marker.

Fruity D's

Transfers once more come from Cambridge Custom Transfers and were fixed with Johnson's Kleer.

I've used a wash of Vallejo acrylics to pick out detail. They await a dusting of track dirt from the airbrush shortly.

Fruity D's

More soon and thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Mark

They have come up well. My only comment would be to paint over those silver buffer shanks. The self contained buffers would have had black shanks as per the one in middle of the 3.

Thanks Rick.

And I was quite chuffed with my silver painting antics...

Out with the black paint it is.

Don't worry, many have been there, I used to proud of my silver buffer shanks too until someone pointed it out to me. :)

Nice work Mark - on a roll here :D

Do like the finish you have achieved - am guessing you didn’t use any of your pre shading techniques to get this or else you would have said.

Look forward to the next post...:good:

The Dapol website is notoriously bad to search so have you a link to the page with the undecorated models on please.

Thanks Pete,

Yes. Certainly cracking on with a few projects ready for the next layout.

No pre-shading here but would certainly have helped with definition of planking etc.

Been nice to hand paint with Citadel paints mind. Very nice depth and coverage.

Something 70's next time awaits! ;)

Cheers,

Mark :D

I might change my mind by the time I get round to the paint job.

Nice weathering and a really good-looking trio. The Fruit D's don't seem to get much attention, which is a shame as they are nice wagons in my view.

Thanks Mickel.

I agree with you about the Fruit D's. A good looking and purposeful design. The Dapol version with a bit of work is enhanced nicely.

Someone is trying to tell me something as I received my unpainted version today and it's pinky red.:D It was grey on the website. Really like how easily the body/roof/chassis come apart for the detailing though.

Nice and subtle in the Dapol camp :D I remember that shade of plastic too.

It's a good value model and a quick detailing project. Look forwards to seeing how things progress.

Hello Mark, I was wondering if you knew the name of the Citadel paint you used for the Crimson? I am looking at doing a Fruit D as well and the look/finish you have is great.

Thanks
