It's fun to stay at the MCV....1970's Retro. Dapol 16T mineral wagons almost finished.. .

Over the past few days I've been able to almost complete the four Dapol 16T mineral wagons I've been working on.

If you remember I had removed the top doors from two of them in my earlier blog entry. Since then they were finished with Tamiya NATO brown and black.

Then using prototype photos from Paul Bartlett's excellent site I have been able to weather the quartet.

MCV

I have used my usual Vallejo acrylics for weathering. Dry brushing has given the desired effect.

MCV

Tamiya masking tape has been used for defined lines and the white door stripes.

Transfers are from the excellent Railtec range. The number sets are ready made for MCV's and have used ones that look right. In that sense all four wagons are not necessarily correct and are generic.

The transfers need sealing with varnish and a the weathering needs tweaking. Then they can be returned to their owner.

Another lovely build from the Dapol stable and once more excellent value for money. Well recommended.

Cheers,

Mark

Best put 70's disco hits album away now...

More cracking work Mark.

No doubt after all that weathering, you can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal...:D

Tell us more about the blue 24...does that get returned to the owner too or is this a hint at the new layout? ;)

Thanks Pete.

Think I'm gonna do as I feel post weathering.... :D

The 24 is the sole blue diesel I possess. Had it for a long time and like cleaner lines of the 24.

No plans for a 1970's project either.... ;)  Think I've enough on at present layout wise.

Cheers,

They are superbly done. I've got a couple of Parkside examples that I'm delaying from weathering currently but these have been quite the inspiration!

Very kind words 1722. Thankyou.

Have a look at Paul Bartlett's website for weathering inspiration.

Other than the base NATO Brown all I've used are 3 colours by Valejjo. These are German Grey, Hull Red and a lighter dark Brown.

Some gun metal may help as well.

Paint brush wise I used a stubby cut off old paint brush and stippled and dry brushed the paints for the effect.

Might be worth practising on something old first...

Cheers,

These really are superb Mark. I like your style of modelling!

Dapol kits are still brilliant! their simplicity eased my return to the hobby then sustained my interest through more sophisticated improvements. They appeal to the beginner and the expert!

Nicely done.

Thankyou WV,

They've been another fun project and really help you develop your skills no matter how many of the kits you've built.

I think Dapol keeping these kits available and selling the un-decorated RTR wagons is to be applauded.

In these difficult times you can look no further than a Dapol kit as a quick project to lift the spirits.

Cheers,

Totally agree Mark. My favourite is the BR Brake van which is in the lockdown draw along with some Lanarkshire bits and bobs ready to go!!

Cheers, Dave

Totally agree with you on that one Dave.

An excellent kit which with a few modifications makes up nicely.

Well done, Mark. Inspiration for me to build a couple or more from my collection!

Your weathering is very convincing.

Thankyou CK.

Much appreciated.

Likewise I like the effect on your Cambrian Herring wagons.  I hope I can achieve the same effect as yours on mine.

Cheers,
