Time for a brake... New Hornby LMS brake van.

My new Hornby LMS brake van in BR guise appeared in a previous blog entry.

Odds & sods....

As I mentioned then I felt the curved moulded rain strips were reminiscent of the old Airfix BR brake van kit. Prototype photos showed angled batons. Microstrip was used to make these.

Odds & sods....

The lower handrails were bowed so replaced with brass wire painted with Halfords white primer.

I painted the buffer beams bauxite to match the body. The veranda foot boards were also painted

Weathering was carried out with washes and dry brushing of Vallejo acrylics. Then Tamiya acrylics were sprayed on the roof and underframe.

Odds & sods....

A nice little project which certainly enhances an excellent model.

Cheers,

Looks like a nice base model and some excellent additional work.

I modified a Dapol version, taking back the rain strips and going for the set up you have chosen.

I have seen photos and videos of at least 2 other set ups. One being similar to yours and mine but with them oriented the other way with incline left to right with a kink in it.

Another, one long arcing rain strip per side from one end to the other. This photo is in the book goods wagons for modeller and historian.

Another nice piece of modelling!

Thanks WV,

The new Hornby LMS brake van is certainly a nice model. I have modified a few of the old Airfix versions carving off handrails etc.

Agree with you on variants of roof rain strips and prototype  photos certainly help.

It's also nice to lift a standard OTS model and put your signature on it.

I think at some point I will add a pair of Mr Franks excellent LMS buffers.

Also I may be tempted to have a go at a Stanier reverse brake with the veranda planking on the outer ends at some point.

Thanks once again.

Cheers,

@46444 Very nice work Mark.

Nice collection of rolling stock you are gathering up for this future layout.

I really like the first shot too on the photo plank  :good:

Thanks Pete,

The stock is almost complete for the layout. Just need a few ironstone tipper wagons.

The photo plank is certainly earning its keep. You can't beat a nice Ivatt 2MT snap.

Cheers,

Mark ;)
