To The Box (Tea Up)

Miserable

Painting buildings is something I've never done before, and to be frank me and art share different universes except on occasional musical moments.

So I've had a bit of a read up and looked at, seemingly, hundreds of photos of brick signal boxes. I've got it that bricks aren't all the same colour (well, weren't - modern ones seem to make more of an effort on the colour front), and the mortar has re-pointed bits and all that. Note to self : Guttering.

So, Railmatch light and dark brick red seems like a good starting point. The kit is, as described earlier, a card and MDF affair. I've no idea if I should use a primer or not, or to be honest how the thing would react to enamel paint. Oh well, in for a penny... Basically I gave the brick bits a deliberately uneven coat of dark brick red, making sure the 'white' was covered, and then went round picking out the odd brick with the light brick red.

The flash makes the contrast much more stark than it really is, but the result is encouraging. I'll add a couple more shades of random coloured bricks and then think about the mortar - no cigar, but a good start I think? 'll get a better photo in the daylight.
