Tree Planting. And Ground Frame Planting.
Here's some photos of the trees that are now officially planted. One shows how I'm using the 'roots' (with a 'tap root' going straight down) to keep the tree upright. After putting a good coat of brown/black acrylic mixed with PVA where required the stuff is wetted quite a lot with dilute PVA using a dropper, this makes the PVA soak into the papier mache and give a surprisingly strong fixing. Not good enough for a portable layout though. I changed the arrangement of the trees a bit so the walls and steps can be better seen, this means the one by the telegraph pole will have a couple of cut off branches added, it looks a bit odd at the moment, where they've been cut off to prevent fouling the telegraph wires. That's the story.
I started doing the RBO and promptly ran out of poly fibre. I'm dam sure I had another bag..... Ah well, order some more I guess. This seemed like a really good idea at the time, but it is huge... One surprise doing this tree was that the clay/PVA mix is flexible. I had to quite severely bend some branches around to get the canopy a bit more plausible and supposed the clay would drop off - it didn't. That was nice.
Also planted is the completely unnecessary ground frame. It's a little isolated at the moment due to pondering of what to do with north end as regards a backscene/setting. Current front runner is a long stone wall (as per either side of the tunnel). Not really what I had in mind, but, though not cheap, it would be a lot less than buildings. I'm not over-enthralled by some of the O gauge non railway buildings either (painted window glass!). And, of course, it's a stretch to reach...
And there's a driver's eye view (that is if a driver were sitting on a huge pot of paint in the six foot) of the south end, nearly complete except for some fencing, the RBO, the gas bottle cage and some titivating. Oh, and the houses currently employed as the contractors yard. I'm going to have to give in and do the wiring for the lights soon. Deep joy.
As ever, phone->flash->terrible. I think I have unearthed an old digital camera, so here's hoping it still breathes.
