The dries the limit...Part II

Evening all - time for a quick update.

Work has been progressing on a number of fronts namely the dries buildings and the rolling stock. Firstly I have been gradually applying water based paints to both the buildings following the grey primer coat. These are being built up and then weathering powders are applied on top. I am working on them ‘offsite’ in a foamboard enclosure to prevent them falling over as before and breaking all the gutters off

The first building (the shallower one) has been glued in place and I will continue final weathering including dusting the whole lot down with white powder...a bit of talcum will be rather welcum...:D

The second building still needs a bit more work before I commit to glueing in position. I will then bed them in at the base, add some weeds and grass, creaks in the concrete apron etc.

Secondly, I also made a start on some weathering. The 08 had the piston rods painted yellow (hated the red ones!) and it has been renumbered to 08488 which was a regular down at Wenford. Thanks to John Peck of Precision Labels for prepping the transfers for me. I have then applied some first layers of weathering powders and some black paint.

Whilst not finished, it’s amazing the difference it makes now to a spot of shunting at the dries.

I have also made a start on the Skytrex van using some weathering powders. Again, taking the edge off these out of the box models really makes a difference. Underframe will be next and also trying to tone down the Skytrex hoodies which are a tad plasticy. Next on the list is to start applying some paint to the Slaters BV kit.

Attached are a few photos from various view points. I am experimenting with making a few short videos and editing them in iMovies. Once done I will upload a few.

Many thanks Rich - yes I thing some cunning photography is required to avoid seeing twice the locos...but the buildings and wagons seem to work ok...

It had worked well enough that I had not noticed it when I first looked at the photos.

Whereas I already know it is there because I’ve been there and played with the trains. Else, I may also have not noticed.

Great progress Pete. The buildings set the scene nicely and certainly capture the prototypes well... ;)

Nice work on the Gronk..... :D Looks nicely done and picks out the detail on the model nicely.

Be good to see those Hoods weathered eventually... ;)

Think a nice Tractor would look at home too....

:D

Cheers,

Nice weathering work Pete. Those Skytrex vans look very red as they come!

Pete, I didn't notice the mirror either until your assistant gave it away. You'll have to include a confidentiality clause in his contract :D

Wow, Pete.  This is coming along nicely.  I’ve always admired your attention to precision and I can see why 0 gauge appeals to you now - the level of detail is outstanding and made maximum by your weathering and building techniques.  The subtle weathering on the buildings is superbly done.  Those long shots are a joy.  Using a mirror is a great trick and I see how you have made sure that it butts up precisely, ensuring that everything is absolutely straight so that the illusion is convincing.  Mind you, I wouldn’t expect anything else from the master of straight lines and angles.  Brilliant piece of work.

Many thanks Mikkel,

Yep I forget how red it was now when I see that picture of it!

Ha! I think I fessed up about the mirror myself in previous posts so no need for contracts - I recall it was all done as a hand shake...remember those? :D

Many thanks also Mike,

Am blushing here  Kind comments indeed!

Must admit, most of my ‘day job’ buildings are very angular so I do enjoy the straight lines!

I am hoping to start cracking into the final details soon so it will be ready for exhibitions...remember those!...when we get back to normality...
