Son of Seafire - Supermarine Seafang F.32

Something a bit different, the Seafang, the planned replacement for the Seafire - which due to the Jet Age, became an interim (and mostly) forgotten foot note in British Naval aviation history.

Then Trumpeter created a kit of it (along with the Spiteful).

I've had it my stash for a while and I wanted a quick build..

What's in the box..

The decals came back to haunt me.

The build..

As with most Trumpeter kits, the fit is pretty good, just a few annoying bits (more on that later).

First muck up- quoting the wrong shade of Sea Grey - Dark instead of Extra Dark.

Spares from one of my Eduard kits came to the rescue fortunately..

If the wings and undercarriage look familiar - they were used on the Attacker.

Must admit I have never heard of it . My Dad worked on Seafires and Fireflies when he did his National Service , fortunately after the war .  Nice build though . Looks a bit like a Sea Fury . Did it evolve into that?

I'd never heard of it either, visibility for landing must've been poor with the cockpit that far back; presumably due to the girt big engine in front.

I worked on a Firefly & Sea Hawk and got to sit in a Sea Fury & Swordfishes - all the FAA Historic Flight. ;)

Very nicely done!

How did you do the weathering? Would like to know for a Mosquito.

I'm glad to see the Seafang is on the list of aircraft flown by the legendary Eric Winkle Brown.

Mind you, it would be more remarkable if it wasn't!

Easy a semi matt clear coat to seal the decals, then a smothering of Flory Dark Dirt Wash, which was cleaned off once dried. The various stains were done with Tamiya Weathering Powders.

Presumably they'd have used the standard curved approach to the carrier, although Brown probably didn't.
