GWR 0-6-0 Tender Engines - continued2...

As can been seen the Beyer Goods is pretty much done, painted and numbered 334, but is still sans the springs above the footplate.  It also features DCC sound in the tender!

The return of High Level meant that I got the RoadRunner gearbox for the Armstrong Standard Goods so the chassis is built.  I'm not too happy with the brakes that came with the kit but they fit and will be mainly hidden behind the outside frames.  I have finally standardized on 31.75mm for the axle length on these outside frame locos and they just clear the platforms!  Occasionally they clout the loading dock in the yard but I can sort that.

Here the fittings have just been plonked on for the photo.  Looking a bit like a lost Dean Goods without the springs; missing the front sandboxes, the springs of course and a tender!  That's the next job.

Looking good

Thanks.  I've 2 Coal Tanks to finish, a Special DX and a Coal Engine that I recently bought a DCC sound chip for, a tender for a small Jumbo is done.  So I really must get on with some LNWR locos too.

Very nice, are these scratch built?

Thanks for asking but no they are based on kits with some scratch building.

The Beyer Goods was bought as a wreck of parts from a K's kit on eBay.  It has been supplemented by many parts from an old K's Dean Goods and a few Mallard Dean Goods parts too.   The chassis is scratch built with compensation on all 6 wheels.  Being almost entirely whitemetal, it weighs a lot.

The 388 Armstrong Standard Goods is an old Jidenco kit with scratch built boiler, firebox and cab front.

The tenders for both are based on ex-K's Broad Gauge Rover tenders that I have converted to standard gauge by narrowing down.  Chassis for these also scratch builds.

Proper workhorses! Those fancy 4-6-0s are all very good, but there's nothing like an 0-6-0 to lift my spirits. These certainly do. Thanks for the tonic! :locomotive:

PS: Is that an LNWR brake van in the background? Looks interesting.

Yes Mikkel this is a joint GWR/LNWR layout and thankfully the GW 4-6-0’s were banned by the LNWR. Shortly they’ll be an 0-6-0 Webb Coal Engine to join the brake van. Might finish that first whilst I wait for the spring parts for these 060’s and the Metros…
