Christmas, but where are we now ?

Another year passes.

I was running some trains and in my head as the carriages drew level with the platform I heard the guard shout,

“ This is, er is ….. Um,  well dunno where we are really, but we have arrived……….”

Yep, I have never got round to making any running in boards, so I though I had better address that pronto.

There we go, now we know where we are.

Wonderful layout and the lighting is a triumph.  The night train on the viaduct is an inspiration for sure!

Best wishes for Christmas and 2022 - Kit PW

Thank you for honouring us with another year of tales from the Kelvin Bank - really worth reading both your content and all of the subsequent comments.

I don't remember seeing the stairs and glazing up close before. Superb. Thanks for another year of inspiring modelling and photos, Dave.

Are there any particular plans for the new year, modelling wise?

Oh, I have a few ideas Mikkel. The layout still needs signal wire posts and the stairs in the far corner. I have never been totally convinced by the goods shed either. I might even splash out on a proper lever frame to replace the panel of switches labelled signal box.  Maybe a few tress as well.

There are some npcs etched by worseley works in the kit stash and I quite fancy a go at a 323 class. Wheels for that would be a challenge.

Still plenty of wagons needed. I might even make one of the midland D299 s that folk go on about ...........

Superb views! Very inspirational, I particularly like the "dusk" shot (2nd down) with the lights just coming on.

It must have been quite hard to capture.

Well Argos it took a few goes. Put it this way, if it was film I would have needed a second mortgage to get that one.

One day I might get a better camera, but we shall see.

Anyway, next time I do a night shot of the viaduct I'll phone the council and get them to turn the street lights off ....

Beautiful modelling, a joy to behold.

But to answer the question in the title, we're in the run-up to Hogmanay .... or at least this side of the border we are.

Wishing you a happy and heathy New Year - at least I can toast your work from the other side of the border we are

Hi,

I've only just come across your layout, and all I can say is "Wow"!

Although I live well south of the border my railway interests are railways around Glasgow, the Central Belt, and, because I once lived there, Oban!  My dream layout, if I ever had the space, and, more importantly, finances, would Oban, with, or without, the mpd and town freight yard, in either EM or 7mm!  I can but dream!

I'm currently building a layout, St Mungo's, although it's in store at the moment pending a move.  It's a product of my imagination but something that could have, maybe, have been built, on the south bank of the Clyde near Adelphi Street.  It's in EM, with a viewing area of only 4' x 18" with a 3' turntable fiddleyard (yet to build)

There will be two operating periods:  1964-70 and 1918-22.  I've joined  the Caledonian Railway Association and have the main books, apart from signalling, which is next on my list.  Seeing your layout is both inspirational and informative.

Time to get back to the workbench, those Ratio carriage kit conversions wont make themselves!

Regards,

Roja
