RMweb Gold Stubby47 40,603 Posted February 2, 2010 RMweb Gold Spot the difference ? The loco on the right is slightly further back, as can be seen by the point lever being in front of a different part of the connecting rod. (or the camera is slightly further round to the right). Link to comment
buffalo 2,243 Posted February 2, 2010 What fun Just about managed to merge them by squinting, but not too well as my old eyes are not as good at doing this as they used to be. Did you use a stereo camera, or just shift the viewpoint? Nick Link to comment
coachmann 43,557 Posted February 2, 2010 Nothing fancy Nick, I just moved the camera 1cm to the right for the right-hand shot. Too much time on your hands Andy............ You don't mention your layout much. Is it this part to a fiddle yard or is there much more and is it still being developed? Link to comment
Guest Max Stafford Posted February 2, 2010 If you cross your eyes, you get a nice 3D picture...! Dave. Link to comment

IIRC the usual distance for normal stereo is about 6.5cm. Or were you, as Larry implies, aiming for something closer to the 4mm person's view? Link to comment
Andy Y 37,271 Posted February 2, 2010 Only 1cm? Have you tried a wider separation? I did try (see below) but too wide a separation makes the images too separated and different and the brain struggles to re-assemble it. I think a bit more practice would define an optimum but this would need to be graduated based on the distance of the subject matter from the lens. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forumimages/Keyhaven_Stereo_2.jpg Link to comment

RMweb Gold Mikkel 24,400 Posted February 2, 2010 RMweb Gold For a moment there I thought you were pulling our legs, Andy (and I'm still not totally sure!) - but regardless, I'm laughing out loud thinking of all these very serious railway modellers going cross-eyed in front of their computer I almost got the effect, then tried too hard and started tasting yesterday's dinner! Second try was better, but this sport is certainly an acquired taste PS: Wouldn't mind some more photos of Keyhaven, we may have seen them before but they deserve repetition! Link to comment
coachmann 43,557 Posted February 2, 2010 Thanks Andy. It is certainly a very neat diaramma, small enough to lavish lots of attention on when it comes to fine detail. I wonder sometimes if we (me included) go for 'too big' and never quite finish it. After sterio, your Avatar.....in 3D. Link to comment
