350 in N - final photos

bmthtrains - David

With the Delner couplers now added, this is complete! The base is lazer cut, a chance to experiment with some of the advanced CAD/CAM machines at the Arts Uni. There are two slots cut for the wheel sets to sit in (an inverse rail kind of thing), while the text was engraved.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with how the 350 has come out in the end, its pretty rough in places, and the bodyshells have slight mis-forms in places, but with the strong livery, this definately 'looks' like a Desiro, and will add a much needed item of rolling stock to Ring Road

Hi David

Looks great! Captures the look of the Desiro very well and an ingenious way of producing one.

cheers,

Tom.

Hi David

Fantastic job. And yes - really captures the dramatic lines of the unit and distinctive livery.

Have you thought about adding a little fine detailing in the pantograph well (insulators, cable runs) to add value? It also occurs to me that some computer printed panels might help to enhance the air conditioner units on the roofs - which are particularly visible in N.

Also, I love your perspex base - what a stylish way to display the model!

cheers

Thanks guys!

I'd like to add some decals for the air con units, but have found it hard to get decent pictures of them, as soon as I stumble across some, I'll give it a go - same with the pantograph well details. Rather than imagine something, I'll wait until I get good images of them. Ive used the MRI issue on the Desiros for a lot of reference, but that sadly focuses on the 3rd rail version more, so not many images of the roof.

The train is great - I agree with Ben that some additional roof detailing would be worthwhile, but I take your point that it can be added at a later stage.

The base, though, is just insanely cool. I've never seen anything like that and it is brilliant.

Well Ive managed to track down some better photos of the air con units, and have produced some decals that have added some more definition to the roof, but still nothing on the pantograh well. Its evidently a rarely photographed angle!
